Mine is up there too, around $400.00 and my car is not new at all, I have personalized plates also.
Something really should be done.
"I'm in a similar boat, At the rate this state is bleeding me I figure they will start paying me back in couple of years when they drive me to welfare"
WOW!!! I thought my $112 a year in GA was bad!!! Im glad I kept my GA plates!! Have fun with that guys. I just switched my truck over to GA. CA wanted $425 to renew and GA will run me about $58 a year and no front plate!!
You know you can get ticketed or fined for that in Ca.? I am talking about the out of state license plate part.
It has come to the point, I'm thinking of renting a dirt bag apartment in Oregon, change my address, register my cars there, and get a DL with the Oregon Address. It will almost be cheaper!!!!!!!!
I think A LOT of people are doing this. My wife and I started noticing a lot more out of state plates when we drive around Huntington Beach. At first (in December) we thought it might just be tourists in for the holidays, but as time has gone on we keep noticing more. Some of the vehicles even had weathered looking stickers from local surf shops, so it is pretty evident these are not "out of towners". I have also notice a trend that most of the vehicles that appear to be local (but have out of state plates) are almost always missing the license plate frame (dead give away to law enforcement if it was from a CA dealer).
We have 8 vehicles and the annual registration fee is crazy. Thinking about buying a place in AZ and registering all the cars there. I did the math and it will be cheaper.
If you remember it was Arnold who got elected on (among other things) the promise to lower the fees on our vehicles, which he did. Then of course he had to raise them again as other sources of income dried up due to the recession. Politicians suck. They promise anything to get elected and then conveniently count on short memories to keep their jobs. Listen to our wannabe candidates in their current promises as they run for governor. "I'll lower your taxes by 10%", says Candidate Foghorn T. Leghorn. What those millionaire candidates really mean is that they'll lower their own taxes. I quit listening to them. Anybody have an answer to this mess? I do but I'm not running for anything and I don't want to start a ruckus on this forum.
A small price to pay to live in great weather state, Cali I love it!!
I love it too. You can drive your favorite ride all year round, you won't freeze your azz unless you want to, the ocean is a short drive and so are the mountains and for the most part we have "peace keepers" here and not "law enforcers" which makes a big difference. You can drive fast. Just don't drive crazy fast.
Nice concept but find it real hard to believe yearly rent in another state or taxes if buying would be cheaper that registering a few cars unless a second residence is really the intent. I'd be worried about a jealous neighbor rating me out. Here in Cali you have 10 days to register if you reside here. Think you would need a DL from the other state to make a valid case.

Yes, must have a AZ DL. We pay over $3,000 to the DMV each year. We can rent a place at the River for $4,800 per year. We spend more than the difference on hotels for our River trips and I can keep the boats at the river.
If you think Arnie screwed up the DMV fee's don't get hurt at work. It's bad enough that our registration went through the roof but if you need medical care and your employers workers comp insurance decides they don't want to authorize anything right now you'll be paying for your own pain pills until they're good and ready. Remember when Arnie said he'd fix workers comp so business' would stop leaving CA? He did. At your expense. My wife has lifetime medical on her injury and now that Arnie "fixed things" they take years to authorize surgery, medicine, anything, and the attorney's can't do a thing about it. I hope none of you have to find out how bad CA workers comp is right now.
And the roads are in much better shape because of all the higher registration fee's aren't they.....oh, nevermind.
I feel the pain as I pay for two...but, if you can't afford the tip then don't go out for dinner...

I don't mind paying a fair price to have my cars registered, what I resent is Sacramento reaching up my colon until the hit my tonsils to pay their jacked fees.
