Ouch. Sorry about the car but good thing youre ok. Its very tempting to go hard on so many of the great roads here in SoCal but man is it dangerous. Good luck with the car.

Wow. As long as driver wasn't hurt, a car is repairable or salvageable. Humans are harder to fix or salvage...sorry for your loss and I hope you get another Z!

Just curious. Were all of your computers on or had you disabled any? Thanks and sorry for your loss.

All traction and active handeling were off, maybe not a good idea!
Spun the car before with all on a few years ago and went into a tank
slap and spun out, but car didn't leave the road as far.
Level 2 class @ Spring Mountain first thing we did was turn all nannys
off so been doing it every since. Tires were shot and the road was cold,
I just put $2400 tires on my ZR1 so didn't reshod the ZO6 in time.
Leson learned, replace the tires.

Thanks for the crash forensics. I'm sure all of us will benefit from this information.

Some of us do both but in the canyons you should never push the limits like you can safely do on the track. A fun run through the canyons can be as safe as cursing on the freeway nowadays , just leave a big margin for the unexpected and stay well within ones skill limits. The Corvette is a sport car and was built for ones occasional through the twisties.

I agree. You gotta be more aware as a driver too. I know when my tires are cold I gotta take it easy plus you never know what car or driver is coming down the other way. Just gotta be careful. I just went up Angeles Crest the other weekend. Beautiful drive. Sure there were some areas I couldve smashed the throttle on but I just went quick enough to stay in a safe zone and enjoy the road.

I agree. The track is 10 times better than anything you can experience on the street. It is also much safer.

My Vette is for the street. Working on a track car for the track right now.

Real tempted to post a picture of Red off the pavement, but maybe better not.

Backing the car into the mountain was pretty painless, broke the seat back and left some skid marks on the seat bottom!
The only time I saw Benny's tail lights was when he was flying over the cliff on Mesa grande, not only did see his tail lights,
but the whole undercarriage of his car! Howie, I seem to remember a hard core Mt run with you guys a few years back.
Moral of the story is don't go on a varmit run with bald nto5s!

Frank - You couldn't have sad it better. I think in most cases the car exceeds the capibilities of the person driving them!

Basically know your limits and know the car, maintain your car and know your driving conditions. Then go out and have fun!

You can drive fast and do it safely, just be aware of your enviornment.

Some people don't like talking about it, but when your on a group run talk safety before you hit the roads.
