I've had my new baby for 6 weeks now, and she is leaking some oil. I got an estimate from a dealer that just didn't seem fair. So I'm looking for a mechanic who has worked on LT-1 C4's in the past and might be willing to do this job for me. The dealer basically wanted one of my kidneys to do it:
1. Replace Intake Gasket
2. Replace Timing Cover Seal (I thought this was on the front of the engine, and all the oil seems to be leaking out of the back, so I don't know if this is really necessary. I would probably go ahead and do it if it is easier to do everything at once...)
3. Replace Oil Pan Gasket
4. Replace Oil Filter Adapter Gasket
5. Replace both valve cover gaskets (can't be leaking too much)
6. Replace Rear Main Seal
7. Replace Transmission Ext. Housing Seal (can't be leaking too much)
Whew - that must be pretty much all of the gaskets on the car, so I'd like to have whoever does the job to take a look and give an opinion of whether or not the work really needs to be done. I'd like to find someone who isn't just out to make a quick buck. Also, this is my second car, so it's fine if someone needs to keep it for a week or so, that's no problem.
I'm technically in North Richland Hills in the DFW area, so if anyone is local or nearby, I'd like to get their feeling of what a fair estimate is. Also, this is a 96 model. Thanks to everyone who has been so helpful on this site so far!
How much oil are we talking about a piddle or a PUDDLE?
I doubt all of the above is leaking i would guess intake and valve covers. I did almost all of above on my c4 the lt-1 is a easy motor to work on. But the optispark is a nightmare if you get it wet.
