Just wondering if anyone in Dallas has experience with electrical issues with C5's. I think I have a short or bad ground it maybe my BCM but I can't find anything. I get a million codes and my door functions, radio and everything shuts down. Reduced Engine Power, tire pressure, traction control, everything! Then today I got off of work and it wouldn't say a word. I got a boost from someone and it fired right up. I heard a buzzing sound from my passenger side like something was staying on. I'd rather pay someone to help me with the problem than a dealership screwing me around for thousands and its just a ground. Need help please!!
Sounds like your battery is dead. The sound on your passenger side is your computer screaming due to low voltage. Many of your other issues could also be due to to low voltage.
Just went through the same thing. Replaced the battery and altenator and all is well.
The thing is as soon as I hooked the booster cables up it fired up. My voltage was at 14.5. That was at 2:30 p.m. I checked at 6:55 p.m. it fired right up voltage the same. My car started throwing codes in Jan. and all of a sudden stopped doing it. Now it came back and seems worse...Thinking of switching batteries to an Optima red top and see what gives..
I forget exactly what year you've got Racie, but I've heard that on earlier C5's you should check under the battery tray to make sure there's no corrosion down there. Otherwise, I'd say it's a bad battery.
I have a 99' C5 I think I'll buy an optima red top this weekend and see if that helps...I checked under the battery for corrosion and found nothing. I checked under the passenger side floorboard and the BCM has no signs of moisture.
Racie, the Battery in my 2001 started doing some really wierd things, replaced it with a red top and all is well now....but don't forget the grounding points either if the battery does not help. We're going to Ennis this weekend for the TMCCC (Texas Muscle Car Club race) fix the battery and come out. Gates open at 8 a.m. and it will be busy. Meet on
South side of Richardson library (SW corner of Central (75) @
Arapaho) at 07:00 a.m. to caravan down
with those above. Replace the battery first and inspect everything under it really well...clean stuff good too. I've seen alot of posts about weird electrical problems, and the fix in 90% of them was a new battery.
