I'm considering putting in solar screens on the house. I was wondering if there is anyone in the Houston area that has done this and/or can recommend a shop. With the AC in the house going out this week, it's finally given me the kick in the *** to take care of some cooling efficiency type things...
Wes, I wish I had a name for you, as I am looking for someone myself. I only have 1 window to cover and my neighbor told me she paid $800 for hers!! I guess it is a good investment, but sheesh, that is a lot of coin for one window. I had actually thought of tinting it myself (against HOA regs) and see if I can get away with it. If you find someone, let me know; if I find someone, I'll let you know. Good hunting brother. Stay cool.

I've found two. One was about $500 for 8 windows. The other was about $700 for the same 8. Both are using the Phifer Suntex 90%. One difference though (that is why I am waiting) is that the cheaper one is using a 5/16"x3/4" frame and the other is using a 5/16"x1" frame. I called Phifer, and they couldn't recommend a frame size (really kind of pissed me off, you mean you make this stuff and can't tell people what size frame is best???). So I'm waiting for recommendations. Probably post in OT today since SW doesn't have much for me...
I am also in the market for solar screens - I need to cover 20 windows. I get the sun on every side. A couple years ago I got a few bids. Glass with Class was the highest for the same product. A gentleman in Kingwood gave me a good price. I will get his number when I get home tonight and post it if you would like it.

That would be great. My current quandry is trying to decide which size frame is "better" and figuring out if they all mitre the corners or use those little clips (I don't like the clips). Thanks!!
