[TX] Ticket - Exhaust Too Loud?
I got pulled over this morning on the way to work for no front plate and because my exhaust was too loud.
How did the Houston Police Officer determine that my '03 Z06 with B&B Bullets is too loud? Seems very subjective to me.
Since he had me pulled over he wrote me up for 4 items.
1) No front plate
2) Failure to notify DPS of address change. I have a new license with my current address, but I didn't have it with me.
3) No window tint sticker
4) Loud exhaust
All this just 20 hours after my Z06 was rear ended. This is not my week.
Does anyone know the statute regarding the loud exhaust and also about the window tint sticker? The tint is legal. I guess I just didn't roll my window down fast enough. Thanks,
Rob

BS at its best. I would fight the Failure to repord the address change if you had a new license at home with the correct address. It should have been in his computer with the new address. As for the exhaust, you could always play dumb and say it was damaged in the rear end accedent and show the judge the accedent report. I don't know anything about a "window tint sticker"
Good luck

1) All I can really do is put on the front plate and take a picture to show the judge that is has been fixed.
2) I agree, just present the license with the correct address.
3) As I understand it, tint shops place a sticker between the tint and the glass that says the tint is not darker than the legal limit. What if you tint the car elsewhere and move to Texas? Are you expected to pay to have the tint removed and replaced just to get a sticker?
4) I still have the cats on the car. Maybe the accident damaged the exhaust.

Sorry you're having a bad week - cheer up though, it's almost Friday!

When I called Richey Road Collision to see if I could get the car in, she asked, "It's a Vette..isn't it? I can hear it in your voice." Too funny.

1) No front plate
You can't get this eliminated, but you can put the plate on the car, take a picture that you'll have ready and say the plate was under the cover that was used for a car show.
They should reduce the fine.
2) Failure to notify DPS of address change. I have a new license with my current address, but I didn't have it with me.
Show them your new license, this should be dismissed
3) No window tint sticker
I have checked the TX website and I still cannot find any law that states you have to have the installers sticker in the window.
I also cannot find anything that states you cannot purchase your own tint and install it YOURSELF!!! If you install it yourself, of course its not going to have the installer's sticker on there.
Usually they are supposed to carry a hand-held tint checker for transparency.
4) Loud exhaust
You can ask the judge to listen to it (they probably won't be interested) and tell them it is not unusually loud.
If they want to stick it to you, they have to follow the law which says it can't exceed... aw crap I just drew a blank (look it up) a certain db from a certain distance. Tell them you don't mind if they would like to verify the volume output with an accurate instrument. They'll probably dismiss it.
Good luck. Dress nice, be friendly but keep repeating your case, and they'll let you off the hook easily. Its just about getting the money from you as smoothly as possible, and I've typically gotten everything either dismissed or reduced to 25% of the fine.

No good advice from me. I can only add to the "Houston cops suck and should spend more time dealing with real crime" bandwagon. I tried calling their drunk driver number a week or so back. Was on hold for about 5 minutes before someone answered. I told them what I was seeing, started to give them the license and description and no **** the response that cut me off was "what do you want me to do about it". I told them "*** if I care, I can pass the azzhole and let him kill someone else" and hung up.

Can't give you any advice....just condolences because you encountered a policeman with a very small wee wee and an extreme case of jealousy. Was he short too?

At least those aren't criminal offenses. I'm dealing with doing a donut in an empty parking lot late at nite with no other cars nor pedestrians in sight. Reckless driving is a criminal offense in AZ: 4mos jail, $750 fine, 90day suspended license and I have no priors...talk about screwed up justice system.
Good luck.
Good luck.

I have been pulled over 3 times for loud exhaust
Going to Court in Oct. to fight it.
This wouldnt happen to be a Black State Trooper?
I asked him the same thing, what you think is to loud might differ from what I think is to loud, I proceeded to tell him to get a DB reader and notify me that my exhaust is "illegal"
I could tell a 2 hour long story, but anyway yeah its BS.
Cheers

...There isn't a Harley in Texas that isn't louder than most of these guys getting tickets. I wish someone from HPD would come forward here and explain how vette's can get pulled over and Harleys can run as loud as they want. Too loud is too loud, I don't care what your driving......
