Absolute "Final Details" of the inaugural "Cruise around Houston I"
I have bolded any changes from the original.
Original thread with extended details
FINAL Itenerary:
Day & time: Saturday, August 4, 2001, Meet between 5:15-6:00pm, leave by 6:15pm
Who's invited: Anyone with a Corvette and whoever they can stuff in the car with them.
Meeting location: 4333 W. Sam Houston Pkwy., (Clay Rd. & S.H. Tollway, between 290 & I-10)
The Route: From Clay Rd., we will enter S.H. Tollway and head South, counter clockwise around the loop until we hit the Hardy Tollroad. Exit the Hardy and travel the feeder road to the light. Turn right at the light and merge onto the Hardy. Heading North on Hardy Toll, we will exit Rankin Rd. We will travel Rankin to Kuykendahl, just past I-45. We will turn right and head North on Kuykendahl Rd. Our final cruising destination will be the SHCC monthly Saturday night cruise-in, located at Kuykendahl Rd. & Spring-Cypress Rd. in the Albertson's parking lot. The cruise-in lasts until 9:00pm.
The finally: FOOD!!! I have reserved the upstairs at SRO’s. I have also reserved a bouncer and parking next door to SRO’s at Larry’s BBQ, in the back of the lot. I will collect a $5 - $10 donation to cover the security and parking before we leave Clay Rd. A 15% gratuity will be added to everything. Please be patient and kind to the waitstaff. I know I don't want their job
Side notes & rules:
- Toll tags: Having them will make the trip much easier for everyone, but if you don’t have one, please do the following: Bring plenty of change. $5 in quarters would probably work. Start the cruise towards the front of the pack. DO NOT take off from the toll booths like a mad man. Anticipating a few without tags, I will slow the pace in these areas. Borrow toll tags at your own risk.
- Let’s travel in single file. I suggest doubling up at the small booths with gates, the SE side thru the traffic signals and when we hit Rankin Road. Please, no racing (eric)!! At least one officer of the law will be among us, but wishes to remain anonymous to enjoy the trip.
- We will hit the far left toll tag booth, every time. Let’s leave the other lane open for other traffic, except at the small booths that have the gate.
- We’re all adults. Let's enjoy the trip. We all know we have bad-a$$ cars, so there's no reason to prove it. Within 10 minutes the word will be out we’re on the Tollway, and we will be watched. Let's not get a bad rep for stupidity. We drive Vettes, not F-body’s. I know some nice little hot spots we can bump up the mph a little, but for the most part, I think we should keep it around the posted mph and enjoy the gawking & goggling from our traffic counterparts. If you've never been in a caravan such as this, it will blow your mind to see the sight in front and/or back of you.
- Weather does not seem to be an issue, but in case of weather threat, I will cancel the cruise in this thread by 3:00. No makeup will be scheduled.
Signing up is a courtesy, not a requirement. Feel free to show up, even if you didn't sign up. But, if you can, please sign in and specify if you will be dining out at SRO’s later and how many guests will be attending. This should be fun.

As bad as I hate to do this, I'm going to have to cancel.
The boss called and I have to work tommorrow. Oh well, it will be worth about a half a car note. If we get out earlier than 7 pm, I may try to join late in the parade.

Re: Absolute "Final Details" of the inaugural "Cruise around Houston I" (JWSchmidt3)
Just some final note(s). (I promise, no more lectures after this one)
I don't want to be an A S S hole (I'm trying to change my image), but I can't stress enough about traffic behavior. We're adults with prestigous cars, let's represent them as they should be. I'm well known for 140mph cruises on the Beltway in broad daylight, but for this cruise, I will be obeying every traffic law to the tee. Why?? Respect for the other 60+ cars behind me. Let's enjoy this to the fullest, but be smart. Every law enforcement agency in Harris county knows we're coming, so let's give "them" a show "they" won't forget, instead of them giving "us" a show "we'll" never forget.
Those without tolltags should consider the following: Get one Saturday morning. The Town & Country EZ Tag Store will be open on Saturday from 9:00am-1:00pm. The store is on the north bound feeder at T&C. It will be the only EZ Tag Store open on Saturday! If you have no need for one, I don't blame you for not wanting one. But, as an alternative, maybe consider getting $5-10 of $1 coins and some quarters for the feeder booths. DO NOT show up with paper and try to get change. We will leave you. Those without tags should try to position themselves towards the front. And please do not tear out of the booths. I have "THE" best sounding exhaust, so forget about it. :jester
Once again, we will be meeting from 5:15 to 6:00, leaving at 6:15. We should arrive at the Street Meet around 7:45 or 8. We have plenty of space reserved at SRO's, so if you change your mind, come on. I believe we can fit around 100 people upstairs, without having to go in the Karaoke room. For those going to SRO's, I'll expect your $5 or $10 donation for the parking security before we leave. Find me, don't make me find you. I'm the big guy, 6'3", 250ish with the hair (and probably shirt) that matches my car. Plus, I will probably be by my car. You can't miss it.
One part of me is excited, while the other part of me is ready for this to be over. Hopefully in the end, I will feel great about what we did. See ya there!! :seeya

Re: Absolute "Final Details" of the inaugural "Cruise around Houston I" (JWSchmidt3)
John,
Thanks on behalf of ALL of us for what you've put into arranging all of this. I appreciate it. We appreciate it.
As one likely to be tempted to go fast, I also promise to behave. I figure if you can do it, John, so can I. :D I'll also only turn on my strobe kit when stationary. I don't want to have my car impounded either. :D
Again, thanks.
If there is a CF person whose car is in the shop and you'd like to ride with me tonight, just send me an email or meet me there tonight. Or if you wanted to bring your sister AND your date, your date could always ride with me.
I look forward to seeing everyone tonight. Be there or be square. Good weather vibes everybody!

For those 13 or so not going to the cruise in, when we break off at the Hardy, let's try to stay together and continue on, if you drive on. I will be heading down to Missouri City - US59 exit.

Snowman,
Glad you are going to make it. I've been wanting to see the Snowmobile with its new additions.

Re: Absolute "Final Details" of the inaugural "Cruise around Houston I" (JWSchmidt3)
JWS, thanks for adding me. Ah Yes, reminds me of my station in life...THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST!
Ditto what JWS said about taking it easy. It's very tempting to horse aroud in these caravans. Remember, it's contagious so don't spread it.
It's almost time to begin the 125 mile trek from Lumberton America!
