Wow, that looks exciting! I am not quite ready to put my car at such risk yet, but eventually something like that will be in order.

I worked this event last year as an instructor, and will do so again this year.

You can go as conservative as you choose, but be prepared to wave faster cars by you.

If someone is too wild, they are pulled off track

I saw a lot of people have huge grins on their faces.

If someone needs more info, I can help.

Here is the official invitation and details

Hi Speed Racers!

It is that time again! Roval Days at TMS with Texas Driving Experience! Join us for 4-30 minute Sessions on the 2.5 mile ROVAL (Oval and Infield Road Course, combined!) for a day of personal thrills and the ability to get tons of track time before the SCCA race weekend!

Send in your completed enrollment form, to me, asap. Be sure you call all your friends and foes to attend. This will insure meeting minimum participation requirements for your running class.

Street Car (Wild and Mild Sessions) : Drive your street car at TMS! All attendees will be required to attend a 45 minute vehicle dynamics/drivers meeting and "Lead/Chase" sessions (see itinerary). Your enrollment includes lunch in the Clubhouse.

SCCA: Your groups will hit the track immediately (see itinerary) after a very brief (10 minute) drivers meeting. If you would like lunch, just check the appropriate box on the enrollment.

EARLY ENROLLMENT: Big change this year...if you can, please stop by the TDE Office (Suite #118 in the 10-story Lone Star Condo & Office Towers) anytime Wednesday, May 3rd, between 8:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to pick up your wristband and instructions for the next day. IF you can stop by, this will save you a time on Track Day! We are located under the covered ramp in the Lone Star Towers,

Hope to see you all again for another safe, on-time day of fun! Please call me with any questions or email or fax (682.502.8530) your completed enrollment ASAP.

Hi Aggie Doc! This is Jim. I was following you in the white convertible for the first half of the Highway 4 cruise last March 12. I definitely want to do this event at TMS. I've driven their stock cars for the ten lap session, and it was a lot of fun!

With the A4, I won't have as much fun on the road course section, but it'll still be a blast. Do you know if there are any restrictions against convertibles? Also, are street tires and brakes good enough for this? They worked okay on Hwy 4! Also, I suppose I'll have to do the beginner session since I don't have any previous approved driving experience. Anyone else in the same boat as me and want to try this?

Hey Jim,
You'll love this. Verts are ok. I've run it on street tires, you'll be ok just might not grip as good , just drive at your pace and within your cars limits and you'll be fine. Stock brakes worked ok for me in the past, might want to consider upgarding your brake fluid to a DOT 4 like Motul to decrease the chance of boiling the brakes. They do get a good work out. Very well run and controlled event. Can only pass/be passed in two areas and only when the car in front signals the other around. Can reach speed of 130 - 135 at start/finish line on oval. The lead follow session for beginners is good, shows you the correct line. Last event there were only about 30 cars so the first timers only had to do the lead/follow first session and had option for second. Check out DIYGUY video above if you haven't already.

Nice video, Darude - Sandstorm as the background song is a nice touch!

I don't think I'm doing that event, but will be at TMS later this year!

Thanks for posting and it should be a great event!

Just faxed in the enrollment form. I'm on for Roval, May 4! Now to go find some good brake fluid and a one-man bleeder.

This is a great event - I was there last fall with Aggie Doc and others and had an all day riot!! Even got my daughter out of school (UNT in Denton) to come with me for one of the 30 minute sessions - she loved it! Just rented a helmet for her and she was ready to go. Aggie Doc gracefully lead me on the final session and let me chase him for all I was worth - it was great. I had gotten over my trepudation of going into the wall on turn 4 - the tires were fine.

This is a great day and if you have ever considered it, go for it -- you will not regret it. The crew at TDE will make sure you don't mess up your self or your car. Just make sure your car is up to snuff - guys had problems with overheating and running out of gas -- that last one is pretty preventable!

Bring lots of bottled water!

Jim

I use Castrol SRF and love it

install it and pretty much forget it except for pad change time

it is expensive, about $70 per quart mailorder

if you need a hand bleeding, let me know

I'm in Grapevine and available most days during the week

weekends are pretty full between events and travel

Default One More For The Roval

I have been watching the TDE web site for the next Roval oppotunity. It looked like Sept. was the one and only for this year. I got their email the other day. I am signed up and paid for.

This is my fifth or sixth time out with TDE and Panoz. If you haven't tried this before, try it now. It is as fast as you want it to be. Newbies and novices are well schooled before being turned loose. Racing is not allowed but tends to spontaneously break out. It is indeed a thrill to see a Mustang SVT or Viper as a receding view in your rear view mirror.

My car is basicly a street car (Gray C5 04 A4 3.15) with a transmission cooler and better brakes. I have a home made camera bar and a fire bottle. You can rent a helmet.

This is a lot of fun. I look forward to Roval day every time it comes around.

Sign up now. This is a thrill you won't soon forget.

Wow, that's cool of you to offer to help bleed my brakes. I decided to enlist my son to help out rather than spend money on a power bleeder or vacuum pump. I'm still deciding which fluid to use. The Castrol stuff is probably great, but do I really need to spend that much? How about Motul or AP Racing?

BAMF AE

I will not be working TDE that day, since I'll be in Houston at a competition, but hope to see you at the Roval day

Jim

TDE uses Motul and it seems to stand up to their usage, and it is definitely cheaper

Jim, I use Motul and have been quite happy. Bobby Archer keeps a stock of it locally if you need it urgently.
