Default Firebird drag races

"Run what you brung." That's what they call it every Friday night. I noticed a lack of Corvettes, only 3 or 4. While I was waiting for the rest of our group to show up, I talked to the chief security guard who told me that the Corvettes are usually the fastest stock cars there.
Thanks to Mike Kyzer and Rich Pagoria for showing us the ropes. This was my first time out.
Corvettes ruled. I clocked 13.9 for my best time and those two were both just above 12 seconds at 13.1 and 13.0.Mike has the Z06 and Rich has the C6.
What's the point? This is a great way to get some "cheap thrills". It only costs $10 to get in and another $7 to race. You don't have to "win" to have fun, even though I did get ahead of an M3 BMW about 2 1/2 car lengths.
It's every Friday night at Firebird Raceway on I-10 just south of Phx at the Maricopa rd. exit. (If you get to Tucson, you've gone too far.
Have fun.

We used to race there when we had f-bods, but haven't been out with the Vettes yet. Check out the forums at www.arizonavette.net and you'll come across a few club track day threads, where you can hook up with ACE members looking to drag.

We need to do it again - maybe when it's a little cooler, which should be in 5 months.

Ahh Firebird. Where every time I'd go I'd spend a few hundred to prep the car, hopefully to see some improvement, then I'd spend at least $500 in repairs after. After the last fan belt/water pump/couldn't find a flatbed because AAA's 800 was down/stuck 'till 2:30 AM fiasco, I decided racing is a wealthier, more patient man's pleasure.

That's a good one!

I was there several weeks back. It was the first time I have ever been to Firebird. I went to Bee Line Dragway a few times.

I didn't have my C6 Z06 yet. Picked it up earlier this week.

I took my 70 442. I inhereted from my dad in 81. He purchased it on 10/02/69 at Big 2 Oldsmobile. I drove it for awhile and put it into garage storage for 18 years. It was resurrected in 12/03 and went through a weekends restofication out back.

Once it cools back down I'll take it back with the Z06.

John

So what did that Olds Run...The motor and car look great. My brother has a 62 olds with a 396 Big block in it....talk about Torque!! Too bad it only has a 2 barrel on it... Ive been trying to get him to switch it out for years, but he only drives it about 6 times a year and just cruises around in it...nice looking olds!
