Default Mod help in DFW

If anyone is interested in helping a newbie do some work on my car it'd be greatly appreciated.

I can work in my garage, or travel, whatever is best.

I need to put a set of belstein shocks on, and lower the car a bit, but lack basic mechanical know how.

I'll supply the beer and labor. I'm just looking for a set of eyes and the know how..

Thanks,

What are you doing tonight? GF's gonna be working late, so I've got the night off.

I've got Jacks, stands, and most of the wrenches you'll need. No air tools, unfortunately. Depending on how far you want to lower the car, I also have a hacksaw for the bushings.

There is a forum member that's selling some shocks local, and I was going to pick them up from him. Sorry, I should have mentioned I didn't have them already. I'll have them as soon as he can meet me. If he has already sold them I'll just pick them up somewhere else.

I'm only lowering on the stock bolts so probably woulndn't need to cut anything.

Let me know if you're free another time. I'll flex around your schedule.

Thanks for the offer, and BTW, I checked out your vette photos, great looking car.

changing shocks should take a few hours. Make sure you have plenty of time.

It's not too hard, assuming the shocks are zip-tied compressed. Otherwise you usually have to pull the upper control arm, which still isn't terribly hard. I've done it twice now- figure about four hours total.

I'm busy this weekend, but I might be able to swing Friday night. After that I'm headed to Atlanta for two months.

We could probably install these in our sleep now, right Jay?

What part of Dallas are you in? I don't know how my weekend is shaping up and I have some family coming in, but we might be able to work something out.

I'm in the North Dallas area (Frisco). UMRSWIMR is pretty near me, but I'd be willing to drive pretty much anywhere in the DFW area if someone is willing to help..

I've changed my shocks a couple of times and there is no need to drop the lower control arms. Simply unbolt the old shock and then compress the shock using a jack under the control arm. Then take some zip ties and place them around the shock to hold it compressed. Lower the jack and out comes the shock.

If your new shocks aren't zip tied simply compress them on the ground and zip tie them. That's what I did and it works well.

I'm here to tell you- my Koni's had absolutely no intention of being compressed by hand. I've never done Bilsteins so I cannot comment on those specifically, but short of hiring Hercules I don't see anyone compressing the Koni's by hand.

Ok, Friday's out. How about Saturday morning early- before it gets even remotely near the 102 degree forcasted high?

When you have some padding like I do, it's a little easier.

Man, that whole car thing is dirving me nuts. There are little parts here and there that have to be ordered. I didn't help much when I decided to change the cam. I asked about a projected date and he said a few weeks.....I have my fingers crossed for 3 wks.

Sorry, didn't mean to highjack the thread.
