Got a ticket for 80 in a 70 on HWY 6 going through Navasota (near College Station). Ticket is $180.
I dropped the ball on dealing with the ticket (holiday season, fulltime job, school, etc) and passed the date I was supposed to contact the court. After speaking to the court clerk I'm able to pay for deferred adjudication. Problem is the total is $295! I've done deferred before in other cities and I dont remeber it being nearly this high. Anyone dealt with Navasota? Am I getting screwed?

If I remember it is usally the cost of the ticket plus court costs. Are you getting screwed? I would say not, since you did drop the ball and did not contact the court so in reality you now have a warrant for your arrest which could have you end up in Jail! The extra money could also be a warrant fee?

Id say take care of it as soon as possible because if the person you spoke to is telling you correctly you are getting off really easy... but you do have a warrent on you as we speak so get this taken care of asap.... or watch your back everywhere.
...and your operators license in your state (if other than TX) will most likely be suspended by the state MVD/DMV. Most state MVD/DMVs have reciprocal agreements now. The local court warrant would be a misdemeanor, usually enforceable only within the state that issued it, but if your license is suspended in your home state, that's a whole new ball game.

Hey try it with a CDL License you can't get a deferred, you just pay the fine of the ticket and it dosn't matter if you are in your personal car or a truck . Mine was 500$ last year just because I have a CDL. Pay the 295$ its a great deal if you ask me.
Navasota area is known to be harsh on traffic laws, if they offer you deferred, take it. I'm dealing with a 94/70 myself in Navasota, it's prob the only town I've run into that I may need to use my Get Out of Jail card and take Defensive Driving. Gotta pay to play my friend.

Cannot do DD for over 20 miles above posted limit................
Thanks guys. I decided to just pay it, I really don't want anything on my record. Im 22 and just got my 02 Z, and I pay about $60 per month for full coverage insurance, so I dont want to screw that up. I thought about telling them they would be hearing from my lawyer..

I find that hard to believe unless you have high deductables and state minimum coverages?
If that is the case you might want to rethink your coveragel limits because it could leave you liable for damages above your coverage should something happen.

Its with Geico. $1000 deductable. Some of my coverage is better than the state minimum. I dont have roadside help, free tows, maybe a couple of other things.

Thats what I thought.
FYI you may want to look at raising some of your coverage if you can afford it. Hit a Mercedes, BMW, Lexus etc. It will not take long to surpass the lower coverage amounts and then they can come after you for the rest. Also injury coverage limits, just imagine a serious accident with injuries how fast that can add up!
You may save a few bucks now but it can be devasting if you are not covered properly. I know I sould like an insurance agent. I do have an insurance license but strictly to sell investment products, these are just things I make sure I am covered on on my personal property!

If you pay the ticket and your insurance runs a check, it will go up, period. Being that you are 22 it will probably go up quite a bit. On the deffered.....I did it in Houston and it was $195.00. Court costs are different in different counties, mine was Harris. As someone mentioned above, the extra cost could be for a warrent. I would pay the $295. It will be cheaper in the long run if your insurance decides to check your record, which they will most certainly do sometime or another. They all do it different.

I've gotten DD for 37 over the limit. In Laporte, Tx. on the way to Galveston. It all depends on the judge. The clerk that you call will tell you that, but if you request a hearing and ask the judge, sometimes they will allow it. This was 12 years ago.....but even then the limit was 25 over.....
your lucky it was'nt north of nastysota in the construction zone between college station. they have a zero tolerance not even 1 mile over 55. the constables from that precint started out with a speed trap of about 6 crown vics and today they all have new chargers. all traffic fines have increased, i got a pink slip for a missing mud flap on my truck and it was 150 bucks, i told the officer i would go put it on right then and asked for a warning. he said he was giving out warnings the day before i was a day short.
