Visiting Tulsa Area this weekend.

There might be a move in my future. What do the locals have to say about Tulsa Area (Broken Arrow, Jenks, etc)?

What are the Pros & Cons?
Real Estate?
State Tax?
Property Tax?
Schools?
Etc.

Thanks in advance.

I lived there for many years and still visit friends often in Tulsa. A lot depends on where you work and what you want from a place. In general Owasso to the north and Broken Arrow and Bixby to the south are usually recommended. Good schools, nice neighborhoods, etc. Jenks to the south is nice, but more expensive

I have lived in BA since '86. The Pros would be: it's a great place to raise a family and Real Estate prices.
Schools are good, other than Tulsa Public. Union, BA, Owasso, Jenks are all good choices.
Cons: taxes and taxes. Not much here for entertainment, unless you like casinos (not my cup of tea).

I recommend Jenks. Good schools, nice homes, etc.

Since, you are living in Houston now, you will find the taxes less expensive! Cost of living in Tulsa is a lot lower, but agree with with the early post, limit activities....I lived there from 1981 through 1998.

Things could have changed......

Here's a nice feature you will find very near Tulsa...

http://www.hallettracing.net/

I lived there for 10 years, but that was some time ago, so I won't comment about schools, etc. You will find you have 4 seasons there.

Cool. Thank you for the replys and information.

This is not definite...just an networking and possible option for the near future.

If the State Tax and Property Tax together even out to what Property Tax is in Houston (Cypress) then I'll be alright. If it is more I will have to rethink some of this...Property Tax in Cypress is ridiculous...we don't need a $75million athletic/conference facility that looks all fancy. Need a square box with teachers, books, and science stuff...but I digress.

The commute is a nice feature too (in Tulsa)...I travel 290 to the Greenway area (Houston) now...horrible.

Same career but better opportunities (possibly) in Tulsa. Plus, we have family in Norman, OK and Wichita, KS...be much closer.

Thanks again.

I grew up in Oklahoma and moved to Tulsa 4 1/2 years ago after living in Texas for more than 10 years (mostly DFW area). I like living in Tulsa, but it helps that I have friends and relatives in the area. Some more Pros are that, for the most part, people are very friendly. Traffic is light. There are lots of windy roads nearby that are good for cruising. Unfortunately, most of the roads are poorly maintained.

There is a 1/4 mile dragstrip (Tulsa Raceway Park) and a road coarse (Hallett) nearby.
