Default Only 1 Week to go for the First Annual Cruise for Cancer

Well one week from today is the First Annual Cruise for Cancer. The event has begun to hit the media now. It was published in yesterdays Arizona Republic as well as broadcast on AM's World of Wheels hosted by Teresa Lee. The newspaper ad generated some interest in both participants and spectators, signing on another 4 cars yesterday. Everything is in place, and it is just the waiting game until the day. The band is set to start at about 1:00PM, not sure on just how many sets they are going to play but knowing Alonzo as I do he will just keep the crowd moving, and donating of course :D Next week at this time registration will be open and all of those Beautiful Corvettes will be lining up for the parade. I am going to post here the rules of the parade as agreed to by myself and the Maricopa County Sheriffs Dept, as well as the times and directions for those that may still be thinking of attending:

I had a meeting with Mr. Jim Paxton who is the commander of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Department Motorcycle Posse Unit last night to discuss the rules that will have to be followed during the parade lap around the Valley to insure the safety of not only all the participants but more importantly the general public. I am giving you all advanced notice now on just how the parade will be run, but they will also be given to you in a packet at the time of registration on the morning of the event.

1- All participants MUST begin the parade at Cocomo Joe's on the S/W corner of Tatum and Dynamite the morning of the parade and show. I am not going to give out the exact route at this time. It will be a "followed" parade. This is to insure that there are no cars waiting along the side of the road along the route to be "picked up" as the parade passes. The reason for this is so that the Deputies can keep the entire procession together.

2- We WILL be obeying all traffic laws and stopping at all traffic lights along the route. The route that has been chosen has a very minimal amount of traffic signals so over all that should not present too much of a problem at all. The reason for this is due to permit regulations through the different municipalities that the procession will be passing though. The Deputies are very well versed in handling this sort of procession in this manner.

3- On the few local streets along the route a speed limit of 45 MPH will be used and 55 MPH on freeways. This is also so that the Deputies can have better control of keeping all of the cars together. Remember this is a parade lap not a speed or Autocross event. Exposure is the name of the game here.

4- Keep a 2 to 2 1/2 car length distance between you and the car ahead of you at all times. Again this is to insure the safety of all involved. That will help the Deputies in making sure that there is no other cars weaving in and out of the procession.

5- There will be no passing at any time unless instructed by the Deputies that are leading the procession. They will be running with their flashing lights on so that will help any other cars to move from the lane that we are going to be traveling in.

6- We will be exiting and entering the Cocomo Joe's parking lot from the same driveway. I will be walking the lot with the Sheriffs Department, probably this weekend, to lay out how we will exit and enter so as not to cause a traffic tie up both on the street and in the parking lot.

7- Upon returning to the parking lot all cars will enter and be directed to the furthest parking stall and we will back fill to the driveway that we came in from. All cars will back into the stalls. There will be a Deputy there to direct all cars.

8- There shall be no parking, either by participants or spectators in the Giant gas station parking area. There is not much parking there to begin with but in order to get their approval I had to give my word to them that their area will be kept clear of cars so as not to disrupt their daily business.

The parking lot will be roped off for us to insure that only our participants will be in the lot. I am going to be marking off the lot on that morning in such a way that others can pass through the lot but not come anywhere near the Corvettes. I am also going to go over with the Deputies where the spectator parking will be, again not anywhere near the Corvettes. I will also be assisting in setting up the stage and dance floor. Alonzo and Mango Mango will be starting at about 1PM for about 2 hours or so. This is a real good dance band and should make the day that much more fun. As said in the last update, there are 3 restaurants that have given this event their "blessing". There is a wide variety of food to eat there. From pizza to sushi. There is also Giant for those that want something quick.
There are going to be at least 3 armed Deputies patrolling the parking lot at all times throughout the day to insure everyone's safety. I am doing this, not that I anticipate any problems what so ever, but rather if you want to go and dance or sit down and have a meal or a drink, you can do so and know that your car will be totally safe.
According to Mr. Paxton, who has done this sort of thing many times, he feels that between the route and the amount of planning that has gone into this that the event should go off without a hitch. It promises to be a fun day for all.

Lastly again I will ask all that attend to please make a donation of whatever you can afford on site the day of the show. Thank you all for allowing me to constantly stuff your mailboxes with these updates, but I am trying to keep everyone in the loop every step of the way. I am trying to minimize the amount of questions in everyone's mind as much as possible. If there are any questions that remain unanswered you can contact me either by email at corvette@pipeline.com or by phone at 480-419-0613 or my cell at 480-205-0821.

Hey Joe,

Sounds like, I know you have, really got the cruise all put together. All the details are done, now everyone's got to arrive and go on the cruise.

I would like to put out the word to everyone who hasnt signed up, do it. This is a fantastic event and Joe has put in many, many hours of hard work. If you own a vette, and it drives, come on out and enjoy.

This has the makings for an excellent day to go for a cruise, hang out with friends, and enjoy the "spirits" afterward. So come on out and have some fun.

Keep up the good work Joe!!! :chevy

Nothing here tells about this event... not even the date! And the link is only a registration form that has no info! What gives?

My appologies. I have been posting about the event for so long that I completely forgot about people that are new to the Forum. I will give you some of the particulars now.

The event is scheduled for Sunday November 11th. It consists of a parade lap of about 130 Corvettes that will be escorted by members of the Maricopa County Sheriffs Motorcycle Unit. The route is about 40 to 50 miles and should take in the neighborhood of 3 hours. It will be followed by a Corvette Car show at Cocomo Joe's of North Phoenix at Tatum Ranch who is hosting the event. There are 3 resturants there and beverages will be available to all participants and spectators as well as coffee and rolls in the morning also provided by Cocomo Joe's to all participants. There will be live music and dancing. Music is provided by Alonzo and Mango Mango the house band at Cocomo's. There is no fee to register but I am asking for an on site donation of whatever the household budget can afford. All proceeds are going to the American Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer research and programs. I am a prostate Cancer survivor, but let me assure you and all others that I am not doing this for myself, or any personal recognition or gains. I am doing this for you, your family, and most importantly your children so that one day we can eliminate Cancer once and for all. The money that we raise today is the research of tomorrow and a cure the day after.
After you sign up you will be placed on the mailing list where updates will be sent out to all participants regarding directions, registration times and any other information that participants should be aware of. I am trying to keep all participants in the loop at all times.
This is an insured event. Desert Corvettes has dontated the liability insurance for the event and all participants.
You can still register on line at the following web site: http://temp.corvetteforum.net/events...sterbria.shtml
There will also be on site walk in registrations available, but pre registration will be the way to go. The registration on the event day will start at 6:00AM with the parade kicking off at 9:00AM. I will need at least that amount of time to get everyone signed in.
Should you need any other information please email me and I will give you my phone numbers where to contact me for any additional information that you may need.
Again my appologies for negelection any new members to the forum.
Thanks for taking an interest and hope to see you at the event.

Can anyone tell me if I have registered yet? I think I did when this cruise was first proposed. I don't want to register twice if I have already done so. Sorry, old age must be setting in. If someone can look in the data base I'd appreciate it. You can email me with the results of the search ryoungda@qwest.net

Thanks,
Dick

If anyone's interested, they can come by my house and we'll travel to the event together. I will be leaving at 6:45. I know it's early, but maybe we can help Joe out with the registration or whatever. I'm really excited for this event. See you all Sunday.

Well its almost here, this Sunday is the First Annual Corvette Cruise for Cancer hosted by Cocomo Joe's of North Phoenix located on the N/W corner of Tatum and Dynamite at the Dynamite Creek Shopping Center. With their input this promises to be a great day.
The number of cars is still growing since the ad came out the this past Saturday's Arizona Republic. It is now up to 140 cars and there is at least one person that is bringing in his 50's vintage race car. This particular car I know is used strictly for the vintage road races that are televised on Speed Vision.
Because of the amount of cars and projected spectators the Maricopa County Sheriffs Department has concented to get involved providing sworn deputies to aid the Posse members in the motorcade procession around the Valley and to keep a security presence at the show.
There is still time to sign up at the online web site at : http://temp.corvetteforum.net/events...sterbria.shtml
There is no cost to sign up, just a donation of whatever the family household budget can afford is asked. If you do not wish to sign up but would just like to come out and enjoy the beautiful Arizona fall weather with your family, and of course all of the Beautiful Corvettes :D there is no charge for admission to the event. A donation is asked but not required. Come on out and have a great day with your entire family. Eat, Drink, Dance and just have a great time and meet some of your fellow/female members of the CorvetteForum.com.
Hope to see you all there Sunday, one thing that I think I can promise is that there will be more cars showing here then at the Route 66 "car show"
Thanks again for all your patients putting up with all of these posts the past few months.
Email me and I will send you my phone numbers if additional information is required.
Thanks Again to all,
Joe Bria

Ok For those of you that would like to watch the football games, Cocomo's has I think 7 TV's including a big screen and all will be tuned to different games. Evil Deed called there yesterday, I just happened to be there and he asked that question. They will be on Jim not to worry so you can hoist a couple of Cool Ones and have a good time
See you all Sunday
