Default Help! Need advice...

Ok, I have some dumb questions. This is my first engine build, and I’m still learning.

First, I am dropping an LS1 from a 2000 vette in my FD RX7. I have the block, crank, pistons, and rods. I’m missing:
- Heads/covers
- Valves/Springs/ covers, etc
- Intake
- Throttle body

I’m poor, so I’m trying to get what I can used, but in good shape. I keep finding good deals on parts for different year vettes (like ‘01, ‘03), or parts from an LS6, LSX, etc.

How interchangeable are the parts for say an ‘00 and an ‘03? Can I put LS6 parts on my ‘00 LS1? I read somewhere I shouldn’t be putting anything less than 2000. Which ones should I avoid? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Jason

Ok ls6 and ls1 parts are interchangeable. Also someLs2 parts are also interchangeable.
Ls6 intakes perform better then ls1
Ls2 intakes suck unless you do port work on them.

Ls6 heads 2002-2004 z06 are better then ls2

LS2 2005-2007 non z06 heads are better then ls1 1999-2004 non z06

Throttle bodys are the same for ls1 or ls6 corvette.

Are you going to be setting up drive by wire system or using a throttle cable?
For throttle cable style TB use one from any 97 and up f-body

Valve Springs Use Ls6 Z06 springs unless you have high lift cam.
Aftermarket springs work the best.

If you are building a motor do not use Used lifters dont build in a problem. Been there done that lost a new motor after 1k miles due to bad lifter.

DID i confuse you yet

Ok that helps. Thanks!
So what about different year LS1s? Are there any worries there?

I'm not sure about the throttle cable or not...that's a good question. I'll have to check the RX7 forum and see what assembly they are using for the V8 conversions.

One more thing...should I only use vette parts? Grabbing these from the Camaro or 'Bird is probably bad, huh? Is the porting different?

Rember this a Ls1 is a Ls1 f-body or corvette they just have different acessorys and/or engine internals mostly just the cam and heads .
I think all the ls1 parts are about the same for all c5's.
I would use primarly vete parts so you can find replacements easy.
The only known problem on the ls1 was oil consumption and piston slap.
