Default Need a little help

Anyone in the Dallas area want to help a complete n00b out installing weatherstripping on just the T-tops on a 1980. I'm about to buy it and do it myself b/c COD wants $850 to do it. I can buy the kit and all the supplies for under $100, so I figured I would try it first, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I can follow written instructions, but I would really like someone with some experience to take me through at least one of them.
Thanks,
Brian

I did mine on my 78 a few years ago. I assume you are trying to stop leaks. The actual install of the weatherstripping is extremely easy. Its making the tops seal to the glass/body that is VERY labor intensive. I have spent many hours trying to get mine to seal, when I adjust them enough to seal one place, they leak another. With the flexing and saggin the C3 body does, its very difficult to get them to seal up now that they have aged.

I se. so maybe I don't need new weatherstripping. How do you adjust the way they seal?

If it is leaking at the glass to top seals, you can remove the door panel, and there are several bolts/slotted holes on top of the door, you loosen these and pull the window glass inwards to get a tighter seal against the rubber. If the rubber around the inside of the top is leaking, you have to remove all the trim around them and install shims on the mounting points to pull the top down tighter against the body. If your weather stripping is really compressed or rotting, I would replace it, then adjust it all. It can be a really trying experience. Another really common leak is the windshield seal, this will cause the water to come in and leak from the front of the t-top right onto the seat bottoms, it looks like the tops are leaking, but they arent. I still havent fixed that one yet.

I think that's the one I have. Great. I guess I'll try some different things.
