Default Need HELP with Passing TX state inspection

I recently had a g5x4 cam installed. I have lg pros with offroad system. So I need to pass inspection. I go to my local shop and put on the obdII test. Car has no CEL all is well. Then as it checks the system, inspector says theres a problem: (You can have 2 (not ready)and still pass he told me)

o2 sensors - not ready ( tuned out i think)
evap system- not ready
2nd air- not ready

I forgot to drive the car through a cycle since LG had disconnected the battery. How to I get these systems to say "Ready". I drove the car about 50 miles before the inspection, does it take more miles??

Please Help!!

Chad

No matter where you are in Texas, You will need to have Cat. converters to pass state inspection. Now you car will have been entered into the system and noted that it failed. It will be hard to get it inspected with that noted. It will pop up (failed previously) at any station that you take it to in Texas.

No CEL? I guess you have it tuned? If not you will throw a code after a little while. With the correct tune you will pass the obd2 inspection without even racking any miles up on the car. Get it tuned and find a blind or broke inspector

As of October (I think it was) you can only have 1 not ready. It used to be 2 before hand. Just to let you know.

Regardless of CEL's or codes pending you won't legally pass an Inspection without the original Catalytic convertors in the original locations. All you can do is hope the Inspector is ignorant or indifferent and won't check.

I was told last year that due to the different emission standards in different counties in Texas that you have to be tested in your County of residence.

The DTC's will need further tuning and even with a cam, you have no DTC's detected.

Yeah right. It's all computerized now, no matter the county. You can't get a sticker in a county other than your own.

Sell your Vette to some unsuspecting fool and buy a C2!

I just had Gay's 98 Ford Ranger truck inspected in Bexar County "San Antonio" and all they did was walk around it. No tail pipe sniffer or anything.

We don't have sniffers here in San Antinio.

I can get inspection stickers from a friend for a fee. But different counties have different colors, correct...

Just like your insurance is now linked to your vehicle, ie: the cop knows if you have insurance now by your license plate, they also know if you have a legal sticker or not.....and if not get ready to go to jail.
As stated above you are stuck in your county because of different air standards.
Hay's county has no sniffer.....yet. I live in Hay's county now but will be retiring to lake travis...travis county...which is bad news. I recently purchased a cheap.....really cheap.....city lot in Llano just for vehicle registration for insurance and sticker purposes. Llano and other small towns in countys with low populations are many years away from sinffers. Insurance savings and sticker savings in 5 years pays for the lot and I still have use for my camper etc.

I am a Texas State Inspector. There are about 13 different areas that we cannot issue a sticker for legally unless you fill out a form stating you have moved away from that area. Not something that I want to mess with. It is a felony to lie on a State Inspection.

I beg to differ on the part I bolded. Why do you think aftermarket (LG, Kooks, American Racing, Stainless Works) all sell catted Long Tube Headers with X pipes? Pretty sure you don't have to have the ORIGINAL cats. The cats that come with the header mfg are adequate as well. Didn't want anyone to start thinking they had issues with their aftermarket cats.

LG, etc will NOT install headers w/aftermarket cats just because of this Federal Ruling. Something like a $10,000 fine for each installation. It's not against the Law to sell them but it is against the Law to install (and use) them.

Plain fact; If you have long tube headers with or without aftermarket cats you are in violation of Federal Law. The Law isn't enforced much but it is a Federal Law, every State has to follow it. There are NO headers on the market that are Legal in any State. One Comany originally offered shorty headers that used the original cats that supposably made for a legal installation but they never got CARB certification so ALL headers are illegal. Note that the paperwork on any brand of headers states "For off road use only".

My '05 had long tube headers w/hi-flow cats and passed Inspection here in Texas but it only passed because the Inspector didn't ask and I didn't volunteer the information.

They'll need to get under the car and know it's non-stock cats. I've never seen them do this at all. I passed my beater truck last year with it throwing tranny codes (if it's not emissions related they don't care). I think they got wise to people driving to counties with less restrictive inspection requirements so you have to do it in your registered county. .
