So how did everyone's vettes fare in the hail storm today? Mine was tucked away safely in the garage, but the house took a pounding - 3 smashed windows, holes in the covered patio, and probably some roof damage as well. The wife got caught in the storm on her way home, and her car got beat to ****.
Found some of these in my yard an hour after the storm:
Was that in Austin? That's insane. I'm in Dallas and we just got a good bit of rain, but nothing like that! Sorry about your wife's car..
Yep, North Austin. I called and filed a claim with my insurance company, and they said they've already designated the event as a "catastrophe", which I think in insurance terms means over $25 million in damages.
Vette was outside. I was sitting in my buddies garage enjoying some beers. His wifes car got beat up a bit. The vette just laughed at the hail. No damage at all. We got about golf ball sized, maybe a bit smaller. I am waiting till morning to see the damage to the residence, hopefully no damage.
Yep in Pflugerville it was all marble sized also with a few bigger mixed in. Made the wife leave work early and had both the Vette and Tahoe tucked away in the garage. Looks like west of 35 had it worse than east. Although the neighbors brand new Chevy dully was in the drive way all through the storm.
I am waiting for them to pronounce the area as a catastrophic disaster area and then I will call insurance to see about a new roof.
Got the bad rain here, north of Houston, but only a small amount of tiny hail. Feel bad for you guys in Austin!! good luck with the insurance companies.
Good thing I live in South Austin, cause I have no garage at these apartments heh. Hopefully mine is alright.. The last time it rained really hard I realized I have a leak in my roof which soaks the headliner and drips on my passenger seat. I'm too afraid to go check.
It was a reasonably small supercell that formed out near Spicewood / Marble Falls. I started watching the bow echo form around Spicewood and stayed at work where I park in a covered garage. My buddy said he could beat it home; bad move. His Mazda got all the windows knocked out, the mirrors ripped off the doors and dents that penetrated the metal.
I was at the Tax Office in SW Fort Worth when we got a storm with pea to marble sized hail . It started when I walked to the car so I pulled under a car wash across the street till it was over.
A few years ago we had softball sized hail that tore up a lot of stuff and put people in the hospital.
I had to stop on the way to Houston this afternoon cause of the rain.
I hate rain , at least when I'm driving my vette.
Sorry for all who got damage but it's that time of the year.
The pic with the grass blade attached is interesting. You can see the original core with an area of thaw and refreeze around it. That hailball had been up and down in the atmosphere a couple trips.
