Default Houston - Shop for engine work ? ?

Looking for a shop in Houston that does good engine work. Also looking for opinions from personal experience, not just what the "word" is.

Thanks
Derek

While you didn't say exactly what kind of engine work you're interested in, I don't think you can go wrong by talking to Jason or Stephen over at EnglandGreen. Contact info is on their website.

Frank's Vettes. He's right down the street from you

http://www.franksvettes.com/

Corvettes is all they do. They have done ALL my engine/mechanical work. Fair, Fast and still done right. My car's currently in his shop getting a supercharger installed.

Tell him George sent you.

It really depends what your looking for "Engine work". Bolt on's, or a complete build.

There are a lot of shops around town but not too many in our neck of the woods.

I have a very good friend who has a shop in the Kemah/League City area who did a complete engine swap for me last October. He lost his 2008 Z06 with 1500 miles on it after Ike turned it into a U-Boat so he has a personal love for Corvette's. If you want his contact infor let me know.

I would stay far away from one of the shops mentioned above. Place is a joke with their axle dyno by taking the wheel off, and didn't even correctly torque any of my header bolts down. Lots of good shops in Houston, but my choice is England Green, hands down. 3-4 top shops in Houston. I've used most of the shops in the Houston area and most of them are very good. I only allow 2 shops to touch my car, one in Pearland(you can guess) and the other is England Green in Houston who has got my major work and will in the future. Both the shops put out great cars, but nobody comes close to customer service, detail, and peice of mind like England Green. I've said it before, but it is a departure from your ordinary performance shop. Extremely personable, very knowledgeable, and Stephen doesn't mess around with the tune. It's usually spot on, and the cars make very good numbers and are extremely drivable.

I know from personal experience, because I race my car. Houston has good LSX shops, but you won't find the detail anywhere besides EG.

I do not know who worked on your car, but I doubt it was Victor. I do not race at the track, but with over 93,000 miles of VERY hard driving I have had no problems with my DD vet, which I bought with 2 miles on it in 07. The miles speak for them self. I do not see many C6's that get used EVERYDAY with that many miles. But to each their own.

I edited my post slightly.

If you like Corvettes of Houston, then continue. I know big Mike up there, Chris, Etc.

However, you are way behind the curve with that shop. Those guys don't have a handle on these cars with their dyno and experience that Mike(not Corvettes of Houston) and Stephen do, as well as 2 other tuners on the west side of town. It's up to you. Just giving advice.

My Z06 has close to 100k on it, drive it daily with a big cam and smack it off the rev limiter often. And I race the car.

Yeah, I know, one of the San Jacinto Corvette Members that lives a block from me told me that moved on. I haven't seen him in almost a year. How is his health doing?

Last time I saw him, which was about 8 to 9 months ago maybe more he was walking and talking. He seemed ok, except maybe eating to many snacks, like most of us on here.

You guys are going to make me cry with such kind words. I'm still alive and going sideways. We had around 16 cars in our group (actually 14 vettes and 2 Mustangs) out of 34 cars playing at TWS last Friday for an open track day, passing allowed in the turns. We hung around after the event for some bench racing and beer, Back 40 did some of his famous Queso with ferrel hog and David Cudd grilled some Wisconsin venison back-strap, smoked chicken breast, venison sausage, potato salad and beans... did I mention COLD BEER. Life is good - already "Jonsing" for another track day.
