Road Trip
24 vettes from Central Oklahoma just completed a 2400 mile trip to Asheville NC to tour the Biltmore Estate
We left Okla. City on Saturday for overnight in Memphis, TN. Sunday, we drove the “land between the lakes” and had lunch at this beautiful restaurant in Barkley State Park on Lake Barkley. We ended the day in Bowling Green, KY. The Sunday evening highlight was a visit with former plant manager Will Cooksey in our hotel lobby. Monday we toured the Corvette Museum and the Corvette plant. We then headed for Chattanooga, TN with a stop for lunch at “TOOTS” in Murfreesboro, TN Great food and service, highly recommend! Tuesday was a fun day in Chattanooga. Aquariums, boat rides on the river, sightseeing, just a ton of things to do. Wednesday we headed North in a roundabout way with a restroom stop at Walker Chevrolet in Blue Ridge, GA. Really nice folks. I would do business with them in a “New York minute” (Okie term for real quick) We stopped for lunch at Tapoco Lodge which is on Hwy. 129, just East of the “Tail of the Dragon”. Beautiful setting, great food and super nice people. Highly recommended! After lunch, we “Slayed the Tail” and ended the day in Gatlinburg TN. Thursday, we drove the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville, NC. We had dinner at the Tupelo Honey Café. Another great restaurant with really good food and service. Friday we toured the Biltmore Estate an home> A picture of our cars and group at the Biltmore is posted on our club website at Central Oklahoma Corvette Club’s web site. There are also pictures of our group at the Tapoco Lodge Face book page. After Friday night in Asheville, we started home. Saturday night in Nashville, TN and Sunday night in Little Rock, AR. Overall, 10 days, 94.5 gallons of fuel, 2475 miles and a lot of new friends and great memories!!!
