In DD, he did not state why I was stopped. He asked for DL, Proof of Insurance, title and current registration. I only had DL & Ins with me both current. He looked at inspection sticker, plates, walked around car twice (PT Cruiser) and asked me to step out.
He had me stand between my car and the cop car for about 15 minuets in 103 degree heat while he was in the patrol car on the computer.
He got out and issued a ticket for no registration or title and let me go.
Did not say much, young polite.
Can I fight this? Does anyone know the statute which requires you to carry these documents in Texas.
So what I am getting from this you have an inspection sticker but no registration sticker? He was asking for the title to see if maybe you just bought it and maybe that's why you had no registration sticker.
Just get it registered within a certain amount of days and then prove it to the court and it will be dismissed..
"if" everything you said was true he had no just cause to even stop you...get a lawyer. his on board computer could have verified you were legal. or just show take your valuable time and go to court and show that everything was in order...before you were mysteriously stopped.
great for a car thief to have all the documentation right there in the glove box.
Texas does not require you to carry the registration with you. I have never heard of this in Texas. I was pulled over this morning by DPS. The only reason was for no front plate. I was issued a warning and sent on my way.
Like others have said, in Texas there is no requirement to carry registration paperwork/title info* around with you, that's what the annual window/registration sticker is for. A lawyer may not even be needed, unless you don't get favorable results from this: You might want to call the office/judge/court listed on the ticket and ask them what statute/law you broke. The ticket will (or should) list your license plate, they can EASILY verify that your registration is current. You should probably consider a visit/phone conversation with the deputy's boss as well, as he needs to be EDUCATED about the law. Just my thoughts.
*I think last time I looked at the receipt from renewing the annual registration, it specifically stated "Only commercial vehicles are required to have this in the vehicle" or something along those lines....I could be mistaken though.

He could have scanned the bar code on the window sticker, it's more or less the same as your registration.
No title is required for any vehicle. A copy of the registration is required only for commercial vehicles. I have a friend in the trucking business and he has his drivers carry photocopies of the registration in the trucks. The original registration is not required.
These charges will be dismissed. I hope the deputy learns a lesson from this.
Anyone in any state who carries the actual title in their car as a routine matter is out of their mind - and no, you don't have to carry the paper registration in Texas.
In Texas, you are required to carry your DL and proof of insurance. A CMV is required by law to also carry his registration paper (or copy) as well as the proof of insurance and DL (for him, CDL ).
After seeing that Ohio rogue cop go off on the guy trying to tell him he had a gun in the car(legal) and then showing him the proof, only to be threatened with getting shot 10 times with the cops glock, and being told the cop's buddy would testify it was justified and that he would sleep soundly afterward-----maybe that Texas incident looks mild.
Like all others stated, you are not required to carry your paper registration in Texas and why would anyone carry their Title ?
When the officer contacted dispatch with your 10-27 (DL check) they usually have electronic info on your current insurance status and informed him of this.
Being your Registration & Inspection do not expire until next year just what exactly did he write you up for (Sections of the law) ?
