Default Texas front tag, again

Does anyone know if the Texas legislature has “fixed” the law about front tags?

I understand that in the 2011 legislative session, they screwed up and removed any penalty associated with a no front tag violation. It was still a violation of the law, but you could only get a warning but not a ticket because there was no penalty and thus no assigned court to go to or fine amount or anything

So it didn't matter how many warnings you got from the DPS (3 in my case) -- they couldn't do anything about it except hassle you

Now that the 2013 session has been going on for a couple of months, anyone know if the legislature has corrected the 2011 screwup ?

I don't hold out any hope for rescinding the requirement for a front tag. That's asking too much of legislators who have a track record of screwing up everything they touch.

From what I can tell nothing has changed since 2011.

A ticket that will cost you money?

Not a warning?

Was it state trooper or city or county?

It was a citation for failure to display front license plate. It was a state trooper. I bought a pre-painted front plate bezel from Corvette Central, installed the front plate, took pictures and the receipt to the court clerk. They dismissed it for $10 court costs. I hated the way it looked at first but it's kinda growing on me. Ended up paying $123 out of pocket which is still cheaper than paying the ticket. I think the fine is like $160.

I've always had it play out that the officer's actions will be adjusted to my attitude. I guess we'll just see what we'll just see!

Agreed

But last warning I got I was 4th car in a line of 8 behind grandma, doing 60 in a 70 zone on two lane US 67 outside Glen Rose.

DPS coming from opposite direction eyeballs my lack of tag, slams on brakes, does a Uie, almost gets rearended by the guy behind him, and almost runs a couple of startled drivers behind me off the road, then stops me.

I'm yessir nosir and polite and legal insurance and inspection and tag. Didn't matter, his mind was made up

He pulled a dangerous maneuver to give me a tag warning.

Guess there wasn't any crime going on anywhere

I really think it is a Vette hate thing they teach to cops. I have had Yellow Pantera, Purple Cuda, STi (with the big wing) and I get more negitive angry cop action in my Z06 and am more mature now and drive much less agro.

I had a Grapevine PD cop scream at me for not using my turn signal long enough in turn lane. I asked if he was joking.

Drove the Yellow Pantera like a 16 year old with out of state tags and never got pulled over.

It is vette hate!

Sorry, Out here in Nor Cal cops don't look twice at vettes, Panteras YES!!! front plates are required in CAL. DO cops enforce it--no. But on my pantera I have pulled over twice for no front plate. thinking outside the box, there is no place to mount a front plate on an L model. I hinged the front plate under the bumper so it folds up at any speed for airflow and comes down when I stop. Just simple door hinges bolted under the bumper to the plate. Been pulled over two times going through SF. When stopped the front plate comes down

They use to give me tickets and I refused to install the front plate. The same office got me twice and I still did not install a front plate. A guy at one of the car shows turned me on to the Show-n-go hide a plate and I have not received a ticket again. They pull me over and I run the plate out. When they say they stopped me for no front plate I tell them I have a front plate they must not have seen it. They walk around front and see the plate so they let me go and once I am a mile down the road I suck it back under the car.

If you are respectful, courteous, & remorseful or at least appear to be, you will receive less tickets.

It all depends on the cop.. The City, The County, and the Judge... I live in Plano Texas, Collin County.. Cops will never pull you over for no front plate.. Its usually for speeding or something else.. At that point they will or will not give a citation for front plates.. The fine is dismissed after a constable verifies you have the plate on the front.. No Fine.. Just a little bit of a PIA. Like I said, it depends on the cop.. Another thing to consider, is that if you like hanging out at the Bars, cops will look for no front plates after about 11:00 pm.. It gives them a reason to pull you over... If you are not a late night party animal,,, then no worries.. I don't have a front plate and have not had one for years on multiple cars.. Like I said, it all depends on the cop, city, county and time of day it is..

I agree with David it does depend on the cop. I also live in Plano and there was a motorcycle cop that used to patrol the area around my home and he stopped me there times in a two week period just for no front plate, he always told me that it was his "pet peeve" and he always stopped people just for no front plate. Thank goodness I haven't seen him around for a year or two now.

The fine amount was removed but the local municipality can assign the fine amount. So good luck getting it thrown out if you wish to fight it.
