I have a 64 coup with 327/365 with 4:11 rear end. It makes a noise in the area of the deferential when I turn a corner but not all of the time. It seems to be more sever after tooling down the freeway and then turning on city streets. It is not a whine but a clunk, clunk.
I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico and would take it to a mechanic if I thought I could find a qualified one.
I just know enough about this to get myself in trouble, so if the forum could provide any information I would appreciate.
You might want to have a Moderator shift this thread to the C2 General Forum. Likely to get quite a bit of exposure over there.
On the subject of differential noise when turning, have you checked the fluid level lately? If the fluid has been changed, have you added the 'posi-additive' to the diff? If the fluid is old, after draining it out (no drain plug so it's either siphon out or use a pump), add in the new fluid and one of the small bottles of posi additive and then find a nearby empty parking lot and do some 'figure 8s' and hopefully that will cure the noise issue.

The symptoms you have described may be an easy fix by changing out your rear diff fluid and replacing it with new fluid along with the additive for positraction.
If it feels like it wants to grab as you turn especially after a long highway stretch your fluid is the problem. Just change it out, add the additive and go to a parking lot, do some figure "eights" each direction and you should be good to go.
