Hi to all in the Southwest section :seeya , finally figured that this would be the best place to ask for advice in my area. 96 LT1 A4 25,000 + miles, have power effects coming in, in about a week, ordered Zip rear dif from mall, 3.54 gears, been told I should change torque converter also. I'm not going to be racing at the track, and probably not much on the street. Just want to "beef" up the car a little. Would appreciate ideas for torque converter, some say vigilante, some say yank, Corvettes of Dallas, said a pro converter at 2200 stall.Guy I bought the power effects from said to ask Chris at Speed Demon sports. Wanted to get all of this done at one time, to help save labor costs, Corvettes of Dallas said $820.00 labor, plus the cost of the converter. Does this sound about right? Sorry so long, just wanted to let you know my questions and what I want to do with the car.
Any advice for converters, mechanics ( who to use, who to stay away from) would really be helpful...... too bad it took me so long to find this section of the forum. Thanks...... Richard

I would stay away from what is/was Corvettes of Warehouse/Dallas. No comment on above post. Chris@SpeedDemon would be my recommendation. "R" baby's there right now and we'll be heading down to get it tomorrow! :D :D :D :D :D

Try LG Motorsports in Wylie. BTW, I have tried doing business with Speedworks and all I get is an answering machine and no one ever calls me back. This has happened twice.

Stear Clear of the shop at Corvette World. I have heard bad things about them for the last several months.
Either Speed Works (Dan) or LG Motorsports (Rick) are good shops. I would get a quote from both. As for the convertor, a 2200 would not be much different than stock and IMO would be a waste of money unless your current convertor is out. Do at least a 2600 stall and get a good brand, either Yank or Vigilante are tops.
How are you planning on fixing the speedo with the new rear end? You planning on having the computer programmed for it and the new convertor? I know you can change speedo gears to correct for the gears, but I am not sure how the convertor effects the program.
I know Speed Works has the ODBII programming capabilities for the '96. I am not sure that LG has the software to do C4's. You would have to add in that factor to the whole package costs.

You won't hear me ever giving a recomendation for Corvette World (aka Corvettes of Dallas) .
I just picked my '82 up from J.B.'s Corvette Specialists -
He seemed to really do a great job with everything .
He's at (972) 484 0403
Steve:
see you saw JB. Sounds like his crew met your expectations.
Tx96LT1:
Even though I drive a C3, I have confidence in JB doing all things Corvette! Give him a buzz. If he can't do it I know he will steer you in the right direction.
