Default Took a major windshield hit ...

Well, driving two Corvettes in Houston it was just a matter of time but I had managed to dodge the bullet for more than 5 years.

Took a pretty significant rock hit to the windshield driving to College Station this morning. Its' basically a bullseye but about 3/4" in diameter, with no cracks outside the circumference.

So two questions:
1. Anyone have a great experience with a windshield repair guy in Houston? I'm talking a true artist, not just your side of the road tent guy who bought his windshield repair stuff from Harbor Freight.

2. Who do you recommend for windshield replacement? Since the windshield is actually GM branded do you purchase from GM and have a windshield/glass shop replace or can the various windshield shops source the GM windshields?

3/4' bullseye should be no problem for a pro.

I called my insurance company who said Binswanger Glass was one of their preferred vendors. Chips are covered by my insurance. Made an appointment, got it done and drove away. Still can't see it years later.

Shop is in Pearland...kinda far from you. They may have other locations.

I ended up doing Safelite repair since they were open on Saturday.

First time I have ever payed more than $40 cash for a single windshield repair but they did a pretty good job.

I just got a Safelite repair. They used a vacuum to evacuate the crack before repairs. That's the only way to be sure that all moisture is removed from the crack. I'd never seen that used on those roadside repairs before.

Safelite from here on for me.
