The back of my 67's cluster has a capacitor that isn't shown on the wiring diagram (as far as I can see) or mentioned in JohnZ's July & Sept. 04 Corvette Enthusiast articles. In fact, there's no evidence of a capacitor being in this location in any of his illustrations in the articles. This capacitor has a blue wire coming out of it and it was amateurishly tapped into the tan wire of the tan/pink pair going to the park brake alarm bulb. Any idea what this is for? Mainly, do I need to retain this capacitor for any imaginable reason? As background, the dash wiring harness was butchered at some point. For some unfathomable reason, whole groups of wires have been chopped out, then those power, etc. functions were tapped from other nearby wires. I can see this will be a real PITA when I get to the AC wiring.
I don't want to proceed with replacing the dash wiring harness until I get some info on this mystery capacitor. I'd appreciate any help.
When I pulled the dash gently back after loosening its screws, the ammeter connector popped off by itself. There's another capacitor there. I think the capacitor lead should be oriented as shown in a pic below. Can someone please confirm this?
Ahhh, the joys of working on one of Bubba's old cars….. This one-day job looks like it will go to tomorrow for sure.
