After removing my ported throttle body for possible replacement with another offering form a different vendor and finding a puddle of oil in my intake manifold, I knew that it was time for a catch can.

I chose the Elite Engineering Catch can after reading several good things about it here in the forum and installed it today.
While I am sure that others will do things differently, this was my approach.

The Elite Engineering Catch Can Assembly comes packaged as such and contains all necessary hardware.



This is what it looks like out of the box.

It has a top portion which has a hole in the top for the elbow connection going to the engine's PCV system. And a side hole in the same upper portion, for a straight connection going to the intake manifold.


The straight, or exit connection, as mentioned earlier, will go to the intake manifold. A 14mm wrench is used to tighten it. The elbow connection will go to the engines PCV system. I used blue Loctite on the connections, but teflon tape can be used as well. I arranged these so that the connectors would be parallel to each other and pointing towards the intake manifold.


The elbow connection is seen in this pic and this is what the top portion looks like from the underside.



There is a supplied bracket which attaches to the upper portion of the catch can assembly, using the supplied screws. A 1/8" hex wrench is used to tighten these screws.

This bracket and the upper portion of the catch can will attach to the passenger side cylinder head.
The two supplied screws are placed into the cylinder head for trial fit. A #6 hex wrench will be used to tighten them with the supplied lock washers to secure the bracket.


To give myself a little more room to work I removed this sensor. You can see it's red clip in the pic below.

It slides off it's bracket.

And is disconnected once off the bracket.

Once it's out of the way I had an easier route to the PCV hose.

And with the hose off.

There are two holes in the head where the bracket will be be secured. The upper hole has a push type fastener connected to the harness. Pull this out and use this hole as the upper attachment point for the bracket.
Now we can trial fit the screws which will be used to secure the catch can bracket.
Trial fit of the screws. They will be tightened with the supplied lock washers using a #6 hex wrench.


After the catch and bracket are secured, I ran the hoses. I ran the one to the PCV barb from the valley cover first. Some people don't use the clamps. I did. And the hose slips on easier if a little bit of WD40 in sprayed into the open end of it.


I ran this far enough to reach the upper barb of the catch can and then a little extra for good measure, before I cut it and used the other end to attach to the intake manifold to run to the side barb or the catch can.


In order to make for the neatest install, I ended up having to remove the catch can from the bracket, so that I could reattach the sensor and route the hoses in such a way as to not leave any kinks excessive curves or dips.


It's cold, so these hoses are stiff.


Hoses trimmed to the proper length and attached.


















This gave me a clear view to the PCV hose which is now off, but here is what it looks like when it's on.
This gave me an easier shot to the PVC hose. This hose just pulls off. The upper end of it is connected to the intake manifold and can be pulled straight off in the direction between the passenger side front wheel and the right headlight. The lower portion of it can be pulled forward to remove it.

And once the hose is off.



I moved things out of the way to gain a little more access for the next steps.





Catch Can is then bolted to the passenger side cylinder head and the hoses attached. I ran the bottom hose from the silver port that goes into the valey cover to the catch can leaving enough slack, then cut the hose and attached the other end to the intake manifold. Some don't use the clamps, I did. It also helps if you spray a little WD40 into the opening of the hose to help it slip on better.






These ends are trimmed and connected to the catch can. The to, or elbow connection to the bottom or valley cover hose, PCV system.
The bottom, exit or straight connection, to the intake manifold hose.








Count sits at 252 C6 Z06 owning CorvetteForum members who are running (or who currently have builds in progress which will be running) "heavier" than stock exhaust valves and "upsetting" stock valve train dynamics and "slaughtering" their redlines. Be they doing it with Inconel or Ferrea Super Alloy or Solid stemmed stainless steel, in stock or aftermarket castings.

I added this section to the listing, for further informational purposes, and will be updating it from time to time along with the rest of the listing.

In the cases where the reports are second hand, I point to the member's tenure here, so as to give the reader an idea of the poster's reliability in that report.

√Like the thread title says, some of us thought it a good idea to get a feel for how many on this forum have changed from the OEM hollow stemmed exhaust valves, over to a solid stainless exhaust valve.

I figure this will give us information on two fronts.

It will let us know how many have any sort of mileage on this type of setup as well as draw attention to any issues as a result.

Also, those of us who have switched to bronze valve guides, but stuck with the stock exhaust valves, it would be good to hear from you too.

If you've gone to bronze guides, then if your stock guides were in spec or out of spec, when you changed to bronze guides, well then post that information up too.

Cars which have suffered failures of the stock exhaust valves, since this thread was started.

I added this section to the listing, for further informational purposes, and will be updating it from time to time along with the rest of the listing.

In the cases where the reports are second hand, I point to the member's tenure here, so as to give the reader an idea of the poster's reliability in that report.

The count stands at 15 failed motors, which have been reported in here, due to valve trouble and have failed a stock exhaust valve, since this thread was started back on 9/28/12.

Like the thread title says, some of us thought it a good idea to get a feel for how many on this forum have changed from the OEM hollow stemmed exhaust valves, over to a solid stainless exhaust valve.

I figure this will give us information on two fronts.

It will let us know how many have any sort of mileage on this type of setup as well as draw attention to any issues as a result.

Also, those of us who have switched to bronze valve guides, but stuck with the stock exhaust valves, it would be good to hear from you too.

If you've gone to bronze guides, then if your stock guides were in spec or out of spec, when you changed to bronze guides, well then post that information up too.

Well, here's what it looks like so far, and the thread is still young;

Count sits at 330 C6 Z06 owning CorvetteForum members who are running (or who currently have builds in progress which will be running) "heavier" than stock exhaust valves and "upsetting" stock valve train dynamics and "slaughtering" their redlines. Be they doing it with Inconel or Ferrea Super Alloy, Ferrea's new partly drilled exhaust valve, or Solid stemmed stainless steel, in stock or aftermarket castings.

Like the thread title says, some of us thought it a good idea to get a feel for how many on this forum have changed from the OEM hollow stemmed exhaust valves, over to a solid stainless exhaust valve.

I figure this will give us information on two fronts.

It will let us know how many have any sort of mileage on this type of setup as well as draw attention to any issues as a result.

Also, those of us who have switched to bronze valve guides, but stuck with the stock exhaust valves, it would be good to hear from you too.

If you've gone to bronze guides, then if your stock guides were in spec or out of spec, when you changed to bronze guides, well then post that information up too.

Well, here's what it looks like so far, and the thread is still young;

Count sits at 218 C6 Z06 owning CorvetteForum members who are running (or who currently have builds in progress which will be running) "heavier" than stock exhaust valves and "upsetting" stock valve train dynamics and "slaughtering" their redlines. I added this section to the listing, for further informational purposes, and will be updating it from time to time along with the rest of the listing.

In the cases where the reports are second hand, I point to the member's tenure here, so as to give the reader an idea of the poster's reliability in that report.

The count stands at 12 failed motors, which have been reported in here, due to valve trouble and have failed a stock exhaust valve, since this thread was started back on 9/28/12

Like the thread title says, some of us thought it a good idea to get a feel for how many on this forum have changed from the OEM hollow stemmed exhaust valves, over to a solid stainless exhaust valve.

I figure this will give us information on two fronts.

It will let us know how many have any sort of mileage on this type of setup as well as draw attention to any issues as a result.

Also, those of us who have switched to bronze valve guides, but stuck with the stock exhaust valves, it would be good to hear from you too.

If you've gone to bronze guides, then if your stock guides were in spec or out of spec, when you changed to bronze guides, well then post that information up too.

Well, here's what it looks like so far, and the thread is still young;

Count sits at 242 C6 Z06 owning CorvetteForum members who are running (or who currently have builds in progress which will be running) "heavier" than stock exhaust valves and "upsetting" stock valve train dynamics and "slaughtering" their redlines. Be they doing it with Inconel or Ferrea Super Alloy or Solid stemmed stainless steel, in stock or aftermarket castings.
