Default iRCFS Fun Run 2/ Season 17 discussion

(im too dumb to be able to figure out how to do the multi PM thing. So i started this thread.)

as you guys know Im pushing/dieing to run the C6R next season before this whole thing goes away one day.

want to discuss possibilities of what we want to run in the Fun Run #2 for this season, and possibly for the entirety of S17.

some data from Michel

Did a little comparo with GT3-GTE-GT1 for those curious about it, at the very tricky VIR track ! About the same number of laps in each cars, default weather in the morning....

GT3 488 : 1:46.8

GTE Ford : 1:44.4

GT1 Corvette : 1:45.2

GT1 Aston DBR9 : 1:43.8 ( with a William Nurburg. set from 1 year ago with some adjustments to it...)

These margins may vary from track to track ! I think at Mosport the GT1 may at least be the equal of the GTE for example....

Oh, and the Corvette is substantially harder to drive fast than the GTE....

Here are some options for cars:

1. all GT1
2. GT1 vs GT3
3. GT1 vs GTE
4. GT1 vs C7DP

Thoughts? Discuss...

Well well well......

I still think GT1 vs GTE would be interesting but GT1 vs GT3 too because for sure there would be a speed advantage for the GT1's but it's easier to screw up in them so the final results may bring a few surprises !

For this group, I really don't like the GT1 or C7DP they are very difficult to drive, and in past seasons when they were used, the participation dropped as the season went along.

the only/main reason i suggested the GT1/C7DP combo was to have an all Corvette grid, (astons too i guess)

i do like the DPs on certain tracks. but for me as a silver driver they are a bit too much car. ie the margin for error in braking points/turn in etc. is just tiny and exact. not to mention there all out speeds.
on the other hand on the right track they are fun and glorious and very rewarding to drive. like Watkins glen.

what do you guys think about doing a test of the GTE vs GT1 for the fun run 2?
at our usual test track of watkins glen maybe?

we all know the GTEs and Aston are easy to drive. so there would be something for everyone, even the arrive and drive crew. the guys looking for a challenge can choose the vette IF they want.

me, steve, and randy did some practice in the GT1s at spa last night.
wow what a combo! all 3 of us commented on how fun the cars were to drive there.
had a blast!
even captured a quick vid, at the end we had some awesome door to door racing for several corners, unfortunatly a rub at the end resulted in a violent spin, and ended it. weird cause we both said it was just a light rub we both should have easily driven away from. still fun!

Such a fun car/track combo! The cars seemed to only take a few laps to get used to and I overall handle really well, as long as you are patient when downshifting.

I dont recall track temps but we were mid to high 2:13's with no draft. I had an optimal of low 2:12 (prob with draft) but couldn't ever put a complete lap together. I mention track temps because at Sebring I noticed a 2-3 second difference in times on a 90 deg track vs 105.

spa was so fun, maybe we change the fun run test from watkins glen to spa?

the other question is, do we do GT1 vs GTE, or GT1 vs GT3?

I'm definitely down for this. I've always hated the C6r, Cory knows this. But, we turned some laps at Spa the other night, and much to my surprise with Cory's tune, I dare say I actually had a **** ton of fun.

I would have to agree. I would be down with adding them to next season too.

yeah i think that would be a great combo for fun run.
i think for next season GT1/GT3 would be better to split the field up.

great data! that really helps.
its funny i used to hate the C6R solely because of brake lockup. i would spend hours tuning just to minimize brake lockup. now after 1.5 seasons of GTE no-ABS driving i can drive and brake the C6R without any issue. its amazing what time and practice can do.
now that being said, yes my new issue was tire spin on exit. even at max 5 TCS is no where near enough for that car. (aston being the newer car/iRacing modeling may be lots better)
however i found softer psi, flater camber (I and M identical) and loosening up the diff. it became a near non issue.
even for several of us Silver drivers. randy was even able to hop right in my tune and drive without issue. even set fast lap between the 3 of us.
