Default Al Knoch interiors, shipping to Canada confusion, issue resolved

My husband ordered me a pair of 81 silver door panels from Al Knoch interiors from ebay. I monitored the tracking number and today it says the panels were delivered to Erlanger, Kentucky but we live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada.

I spoke to Melissa at Al Knoch interiors and told her the door panels were sent to the wrong address. She says the address in Kentucky was what was on the order form so she can't do anything about it. I told her they got it wrong, we live in Canada. She said they don't change what's on the order form, they were sent to the address we specified. I said that's impossible, we've never even heard of Erlanger Kentucky, we certainly didn't put that as a ship to address. She says "I don't know what to tell you, there's nothing I can do about it.".

I called UPS and they said the package was delivered to Erlanger Kentucky and that's the address Al Knoch Interiors gave them so they can't go get it and ship it to where I live in Canada.

So, I'm out $600 Canadian because Melissa at Al Knoch interiors insists its our fault the Erlanger Kentucky address was entered on the form even though we couldn't have done that as we've never even heard of the place.

Thanks Melissa.

Maybe reach out to the people at that address and see if they will forward it on to you or at least return it to UPS.

It is time we invaded again. Canadians should not have to put up with this crap.

Call to arms folks, as soon as it warms up a bit we are on our way.

OP best of luck getting this sorted out. Customer service often talked about but seldom done properly. Sorry for you problems.

Thanks for the suggestion. I googled the address and found several comments about it and what I pieced together about it seems to be that it is the address for ebay's global shipping program. I think what happens is that when a seller offers free shipping within the States and the buyer is in Canada the ebay seller ships the item to this address at Erlanger Kentucky via UPS and then from there ebay repackages it and ships it to Canada for a fee which my husband previously paid. As Al Knoch Interiors was the ebay seller I don't know why they wouldn't know this and tell me that rather than "You put in the wrong address, there's nothing we can do about it".

One of the comments said once the item is delivered to this Kentucky address you can check its progress through ebay. When my husband gets home tonight I'll ask him to check the ebay purchase and hopefully verify this.

Many of my packages are sent to Erlanger , Kentucky and I live in Norway. All packages that goes trough ebay global shipping program goes trough this post terminal and are relabeled in your case with the correct Canada adress.

Thanks walleyejack. My husband checked on his ebay account last night and they have tracking for the package that says its left Erlanger Texas and is in transit to me. So apparently everything is okay. I'm just surprised Al Knoch Interiors didn't know about how the shipping works from their own ebay sale page. Its hard to imagine how they could honestly believe a Saskatchewan Canada resident would enter a ship to address of some place in Kentucky they never heard of.

I take it they shipped via DHL? Erlanger KY is where the their main U.S. sort facility is located. Near the airport in CVG. You should be fine.

Ask the dumbasses what the billing address on the order is. I'll bet no one in Kentucky was charged.

EDIT: Never mind.

The original sent me a tracking number for UPS. That's where I was confused, I followed the tracking number and then a couple of days ago it said "package delivered" - to Erlanger Kentucky. Who takes it from there I don't know.

They showed up yesterday and look pretty good. The map pocket is a little larger and slightly different shape than the OEM but I think if you didn't have an OEM panel to compare side by side with the Al Knoch panel you wouldn't notice. The carpet has a different texture than the OEM and is a slightly different shade but overall the appearance is very close to factory original and I'm pleased with them.

My only concern is how well they will fit as I've heard some people say the reproduction door panels fit poorly. I was looking for nice used because of this and had a real nice passenger side used OEM panel but got tired of trying to find a driver's side one. I bought the Al Knoch reproductions because on their ebay listing they said they use the factory backing panels.

Prior to buying I asked them if these were used factory backing panels, NOS, or what. They said they use the original factory molds to make new backing panels so I figured the fit should be fine and bought them. Now that they're here I compared the used OEM to the Al knoch panel and I can see one concave area on the OEM panel that isn't quite as deep on the Al knoch panel. I won't be able to try them on the car for several months but hopefully the fit won't be an issue or if it is I can sort it out.

One bonus from the shipping confusion over the Ebay Global Shipping Program is that when the panels were transferred from UPS at Erlanger KY, they were given to USPS for shipping to Canada. As a result I didn't have to pay an additional "brokerage fee" that UPS always nails you for in addition to the shipping. It can sometimes be pretty stiff - UPS recently charged me a $110 (CDN) "brokerage fee" on a $400 (U.S.) exhaust system in addition to the shipping costs.

Ebay global shipping program is very good for people ouside US, and all the shipping cost fees and taxes are paid at once, noe extra "brokerage fee" later. That brokerage fee on 110 CND I think was very high Priya. I have paid fee to UPS also several time, but not so high.

Jeb, there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for the amounts of the "brokerage fees" UPS charges on stuff I've had shipped from the States. Seems to be anywhere from 5% to 30% of the cost of the item being shipped. I know that often all this "brokerage" action involves is signing a piece of paper at the border stating what the item is and its value. Pretty sweet work when you can get $110 for 20 seconds of "effort". Its an abusive act on the part of UPS. Fedex never used to charge a "brokerage fee" either but now they've started doing so - I guess they figured if you can get a bunch of money for nothing they better jump on the bandwagon. That's why when I buy stuff out of the States I ask the sender to use United States Postal Service whenever possible, I've only ever been charged an additional fee by them once, they just about never do it.

glad you got your parts.
i always have my parts shipped to a warehouse at the border and go and pick them up. NO brokerage fees. 2 hrs each, makes for a nice drive sometimes, and who knows, may recoup it all at the casino.

Its maybe a six or seven hour drive to the nearest resonable size town in North Dakota. My husband's truck gets 15 mpg so between that and perhaps an overnight stay in N.D. it wouldn't pay to do that for me.
