Would like to inform the group of a scammer.
provided me the number +1 (541) 371-2917
stating he does not have PayPal. When searching his number he comes up on other forums as well.

Same here..person ID'd as Xbn588. He just registered to the forum this month. Same phone number given. How do we report to moderator?

 

Same for me, user name:ortoment he reply to my wtb saying he had forgestar wheels for sale, asked me to PayPal the money, he only had a few pictures of some wheels, never provided thr information I requested about the wheels.

 

 

That is a Oregon area code FWTW.

 

That number is provided by bandwidth.com. It's a voice over IP number. The scammer could be based anywhere in the world.

We aren't able to monitor PMs, so we don't know the scam is on until someone lets us know.


The quickest way to nip scams in the bud and dispatch the scammer is to report the suspicious PM by clicking on the triangle outlined in red at the top right of the PM.

Doing so immediately sends a copy of the suspicious PM to moderators and administrators and allows us act. Posting a thread is okay, but the thread may not be quickly noticed or reported to moderators/admins.

We’d strongly encourage you not to post your personal contact information in WTB threads. Doing so allows spammers to bypass Corvetteforum, making it more difficult to report their suspicious activity to moderators. It also keeps us from knowing what user ID they are using on the site.

We have banned the scammer using the phone number you referenced 18 times. It's one of the ways we are able to identify him. He keeps registering new user IDs and we ban him again as soon as we are alerted. We also send cautions to each of the community members who have gotten PMs from the scammer. If you have listed a phone number or an email address in your WTB thread, he may contact you directly. In that case, we have no idea who has been contacted by him and are not able to issue individual cautions.

The best defense against scammers is to be wary or newly registered users saying they have the item you need. And never pay for anything in an online transaction that involves a payment system that offers no protection if you are scammed. Use a credit card or PayPal and avoid paying as "friends or family" since it affords no protection.

Thanks for the heads-up, but it would be helpful if you would use the report function when you get a suspicious solicitation. Just click on the triangle outlined in red at the top right of any PM or post and it immediately sends a notification to all moderators in that section.

You are correct about this user being a scammer. We have banned him and sent warning messages to everybody he contacted.

 

You guys are awesome, I was just contacted by that number because I am looking for a clear top. He said he has one in excellent condition and gave me the no paypal story and asked to put a deposit on it so I googled the number and came across this thread. His current user name is Dwy. there is another scammer that contacted me about the top also that googled his number 224-444-9566 user ID Mohbamp and it popped up as a scammer also so be safe out there.

 

Someone out of the blue texted me that they had a part that I needed from the phone number 224449655 and I sent him a protected payment through PayPal but he gave me the song advance about not having PayPal or his PayPal wasn't verified and he returned the payment and wanted me to go ahead and send it friends and family which we all know we can't get our money back this way if we send it unsecured so we insisted on he must have a secure way to send the payment that if it doesn't work out we could get our money back and back and did not go well. Called and talked to him and sounded like a friend was calling for the person who we were texting just very very fishy very very fishy and then we stop to realize we don't know how he got our number to text us to see if we wanted this part I looked up On the forum and it's different than the ones listed here.
