Default T. I. Specialty---Poor Experience

Had a very poor experience with T I Specialty Company, Had a minor issue with the cranking voltage out of Transistor mag pulse in the Distributor, car ran fine no running issues, just some issues with cold starting the car with lower battery voltage, sent the working TI Dist to T I Specialty, expected them to change the Distributor mag Pulse unit. They called back said "everything" was wrong with the distributor, and would take $1,950 to fix it. I suspect someone needed to make some extra money off of me, I told them no thanks, send it back to me, I had to pay $200 for the $1,950 estimate to fix, when I received the Dist. back I re-installed it, and low and behold, it would not even start or run. I called T I Specialty back and said I wanted to send it back for them to fix whatever error they made, their answer was do not send it back "they never want to see that Distributor again" WOW! So be very careful in your dealings with T. I. Specialty Company. Thanks, Jim Wallace

Jim,

You are not the first person to post something like this. I debated sending in my good used dizzy just for him to check out but in my searching I couldn't find anyone that said they paid the ~$500 or whatever he advertises as the basic rebuild. Everyone says Dave is THE MAN for TI, but nobody ever posts about his work, other than the few who complained about the price

I recall a few years ago he was looking to sell the business. Everyone is entitled to choose to retire but I wonder if he has an agreement with someone else to actually run the business and who is hell bent on fleecing customers.

My personal experience with Dave about 12 years ago was great. Reasonable prices, courteous, communicative.

My experience also was fine. I'd have to look, time flies, five years ago. And Dave was looking to sell.

I have had very positive transactions with Dave F.
Easy to work with and great communication.
Nice guy in my book.
I sent my distributor, and (2) amps for Dave to R/R and yes, it was expensive.
However, it came back looking fantastic, and most importantly, when installed the car started right up.

I recently sent in another TI distributor to be rebuilt and restored and again it turned out beautiful.
And, yes it was expensive.
However, who else knows the TI stuff like Dave? Not many I suspect.
