I don't normally bash anyone. I just don't work with them again.
Unfortunately, this was more than I could take. I actually told the ******* at ZIP I was going to bash them !
I ordered a buch of parts for my rear drum brakes.
I didn't really know what I needed and the nice guy on the other end of the phone
gave me what he thought I needed.
Call 1: I told the salesman I didn't need anything for the fronts.
Got an e-mail with my order and all the front parts were on it.
Call # 2: Salesman screwed it up again.
Still parts I told him I didn't need.
Call 3: Finally got that straightened out. Still ok with them They were very nice and we sorted it out.
Got my parts.
Call # 4: Missing some pieces of the parts.
Ok, they sent another set.
I now have 4 of the bolt/pin at the top of the brake and still no flange that goes on them.
Call # 5: They don't make that part so the piece that is needed is not in the kit.
HUH ? IT"S PART OF THE ANCHOR !
Call # 6: Where are the 2 pins that go into the cylinder and push against the brake shoe ?
Answer : They don't come in the kit.
I was still being nice until the ******* on the other side of the phone started
getting belligerent and telling me I should have known.
I tried to tell him the salesman I spoke with should have told me.
He got more belligerent.
I told hm I was going to post tips and hung up on him. ******* !
Zip lost a customer that still needs a lot of pieces.
I bought them there because I'm an idiot. ( seriously )
I didn't know they were standard. And probably spent a lot more than I should have.
I thought they would know everything i needed in one place and 1 shot.
Putting the car together ended up being a lot more than I consider.
I'm loving it, but, hating it !
I am indebted to ZIP for motivating me to learn how to make high quality fuel and brake lines.
Decades ago, when ZIP was known primarily as a reproducer of fuel and brake lines, I bought a fuel line from them. It didn't fit at all. Not even close. The reaction I got when I called their customer service was compleat indifference. They didn't care.
So I bought good benders and flaring tools and have been making my own fuel and brake lines ever since.
Oh, and I have never bought anything else from ZIP. Never will.
I have been buying parts from Zip Products or Zip Corvettes ever since they opened in the 80s I did not always get exactly what I wanted but they’ve always come through with taking care of the problem. There’s always that a guy at a company who does know what he’s talking about and once you get to know who they are You only talk to them. It only takes one guy who thinks he knows it all and gives you a hard time to give a company a bad name.
I've noticed in this hobby, you have to get to know all of your Corvette suppliers, CC, Paragon, Zip, Ecklers, Mid America... the list goes on. Some have the parts you need, others don't and vice versa. One very helpful thing I would suggest is get a catalogue from Paragon; this is very helpful as they have very nice diagrams showing the different parts (what comes with what kit), where they go, how a complete system should look. It will give you an idea of what you may be missing or need, or what to call it when you are looking up something odd. I also notice that many of the kits on CC also specifically list what comes in that kit and give a part number reference.
I just give @Joe Inama a call if I need something, he is local to me and my #1 phone a friend. They love him and Joe is the best for allowing me to tag onto his orders if I need too.
I have parts catalogs from all the suppliers.
I've been working with Zip, and others, for a while now and have had minor problems that we always sorted out.
Not being any sort of a mechanic, I ask them and they usually have the answer for what i need.
However, don't be an ******* with me ! I don't have the patience for that.
I'm not saying the customer is always right, because, that's just not true, BUT... the sales person needs to be patient and work with the buyer.
This jerk didn't.
I have enjoyed working with Zip for the last couple of years.
And, if the jerk I was talking to had just a little patience, we would have worked it out.
I'm done with them.
but why are you buying common GM brake parts at a resto house when all that can be found at your local auto parts store
Because GM does not still supply most of it. You have to be careful where the standard parts come from and a good parts source will not be looking at China for all of it. When you go to your local stores and not specialty stores you get the overseas parts.
