Used weatherstripping
im putting out a caution for used weatherstripping. My 02 C5 vert has had a driver side leak for 17 years. I had the top replaced this summer and Looking close I decided to replace the A-pillar weatherstrip. I decided to try a used re-placement from Vet Nutts after being told they had real good used replacements.
I also decided on used because I bought the 7 piece Corvette Rubber C5 convertible top weatherstrip replacement kit and it would not fit properly. Corvette Rubber immediately issued a refund and emailed a return label. I did explain to CorvetteRubber I re installed the original OEM weatherstrips and stopped the passenger side
leak and improved the driver side leak to the leak the top has always had. I will be buying the new A-Pillar weatherstrip from Corvette Rubber.
My mistake with vetnuts was trusting a 5 minute conversation on quality I guess it’s My mistake for not stretching the used weatherstrip in the position that exposes the dry rotted position before installing it.
I’ll take the blame for trusting a used one over a new one which is what my next purchase will be.
A new A-Pillar weatherstrip.
After replacing it, it looked good until I closed the top. The slight stretch closing the top creates and in the right light the bad case of dry rot cracked from drivers to passenger sides is obvious.
After writing 4 emails to Vet Nuts with the information I’ve written here to all of you Vet enthusiasts. All I wanted was an answer from vetnuts! I received Nothing. Not a word.
Not a word from Vet Nuts. I’m not saying every Vet enthusiast got a bad deal from Vet Nuts, I am saying because I was ignored about a weatherstrip that’s going in the garbage,
Fool me once! Never twice. If I didn’t have a concise I’d sell it to an unsuspecting chump. I’m my book? No Not two of us.
I did get a real bad deal. I will delete Vet Nuts contact information and write them off as a BS CON ARTIST that talks a good product & talks a good deal then once they take your cash? If it’s a bad deal? It’s your bad deal Not vetnuts.
Thanks to all the Corvette Forum members for all the DIY videos vendors and advice!
