Luke, I've got some new 17x9.5" rims on the way for my '96 Z-28. I realize that the data sheets for the 245/45/17 say that a 9" rim is the upper limit, but do you think that putting that size tire on the 9.5" rim would be unsafe?
(All legal ramifications aside, of course, as I realize that you sort of have to CYA, if you know what I mean)
wouldn't be unsafe but would look rather narrow for the wheel .... I would suggest 275/40-17
Thanks, I understand what you're saying. I'm looking to maintain tire OD, as I move up to a 17" rim from the 16s that I had before. I was just concerned that a 270 is kinda' wide for a 9.5" rim, as it (9.5") is at the "low end" of the acceptable range, and I'd like to maintain some semblance of crisp handling.
(I could have gotten a 10" rim, possibly even a 10.5, and easily run the 275, but they were $$$ more than the 9.5s)
