I have (2) '88 wheels that I have stripped and polished. I would like to clear coat or have them clear-coated. The guy at the body shop said he didn't know what to use. Any sugestions?
I've clearcoated wheels with a PPG clear acrylic urethane, but you have to go through a precise preparation procedure beginning with stripping the old finish.
Then you go through a phosphoric acid wash and chromate coversion coating just prior to applying the clear. This will give you a clearcoat job as good as OEM.
You local PPG automotive finish supplier will have all the chemicals and paint and I think PPG still publishes bulletins on proper aluminum prep and painting.
