I'm starting to look for new wheels for my 86, which I have gs fender flares I plan on putting on. To have the wheels sit out further to match the flares should I look for something with a lower offset or am I misunderstanding something. Also, how much can I deviate from the factory bolt pattern or does that have to be exactly the same as stock?

blakngold4life,
positive offset moves the wheels inboard as the number gets higher.
If your stock offset is +65 and you install wheels with a positive offset of +40 that will move your wheels outboard approximately 1 inch and more or less depending on what size tire you install will influence the net result.
