chrome wheel problem...
I have 4 EVO chrome wheels I like very much. They are starting to pit and flake.
They are aluminum wheels so to re-chrome them will cost about 1500 bucks and the flaking/pitting process will start again and will reqiure another re-chrome job in about 3 years. This is the nature of chromed aluminum.
All wheels that are re-chromed are shipped to Calif with an 8 week turnaround.
The question is what alternatives do I have ? I like the chrome alot but that doesn't make much economic sense.
One of the reasons I'm done with chrome wheels. I've had 3 different sets that began to pit after a year or two.
The cost of having them replated is what drove me to get a new set.
Polished aluminum seems to work well other than the clear being subject to road chemicals.

Most guys with factory C6 chromed wheels are not reporting any problems after 3 years, there may be some quality issues here. But unless you can get EVO to re-chrome them, the price is unrealistic.
Some people say it is possible to strip the chrome and polish the aluminum, others say you can never get a good polish that way.
