Default TPMS Question

Can someone tell me if the batteries in my 1999 sensors can be changed or should I just buy new ones?

Thanks, Seth.

TPMS sensors are not serviceable so, you will need to purchase new sensors

Just wondering......How are they changed?? I purchused 4 GM chrome wheels for my 2013 GS and have 4 used sensors. Might freshen up the batteries before putting the sensors to use.

First of all, your 2013 C6 will only recognize sensors with GM part# 15268606, 20925924, or aftermarket ones compatible with those OE ones.

If you have some old ones that need new batteries, they are very likely not going to work with your 2013 C6 unless they are those specific sensors.

If they're the proper sensors for your 2013 then you shouldn't need to "freshen" the batteries - they have a 10 year design life, so I'd just install them and worry about the batteries wearing out in 7 or 8 years from now.

I agree with Luke - the tire pressure sensor batteries are not designed to be serviceable.

However, like mrm1149 says, they can be replaced - but I disagree with his assessment of "with great success".

You can do search and come up with a lot of threads with the procedure - here's one:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...batteries.html

The OP in that thread says he's had a 70% success rate - I don't consider that "great success", but I'll let you make your own determination about the effort involved and the potential success rate.

I like the idea of DIY repairs on stuff, but I'm not wasting my time on this one!!

Just MHO, YMMV!!

Bob

Point well taken. Thanks for the link......looks like these sensors even if the repair works may not last long in a a rim at high speeds.
I do have the proper sensors.....bought for used for a total of $50.00.

I had a member (Bakersfield) redo my originals in 2006 and they're still performing perfectly..............don't know if he still frequents the forum or not.

I'm sure this is from a forum member on here.

BTW your 1999 sensors won't work with C6's

I do know people who have replaced the batteries but, it's not recommended by the manufacturer and not a simple process
