Default Just a curious question

We used to hear about CCW's wheels quite regularly, here at CF. I notice that they're hardly mentioned, anymore. Have they fallen out of favor, for some reason? Just curious........

I would think the price of a set of those wheels, now that the price of the cars are lower as the cars age, is the primary reason for the lack of contemporary interest, since the wheels haven't changed. Not many people will put four thousand dollars plus worth of wheels probably worth a good percentage of the cost of the car.

Another reason is probably relevant, styles change, but I can't say much about contemporary style, being out of touch in that area. Dark wheels and the more complicated designs now available with modern production methods also probably influence the choices of people buying at those price points.

Cost always influences the market. Guys buying a cheap used vette are only buying budget wheels. there is a saying that the guy who sells silver wears gold, where the guy who sells gold, wears silver, for a rough understanding of mass market pricing.

Sounds logical, and if it's indeed accurate, looks like John sold the business at the right time....although he did do a lot of race wheel building/rebuilding, which Weld might not be interested in doing.

CCW raised the price substantially on their wheel lines, this year. A set of 18/19 SP500's like mine were around $3700, last year. This year, the same wheels are $4800.
They also quit making quite a few wheels.

Maybe they've managed to run the business into the ground, with the Covid-19 issue "helping".

I talked to my CCW rep last night, one of their Regional managers, and he told me their wheel lineup is still the same, except for the Hybrid series. Many wheels that are missing from their website, are still available.
Most of the raw materials every manufacturer is using to produce wheels, comes from the Far East. No material, no wheels.
