Default Old Rubber

I'm about to buy a gorgeous 2009 Vette with only 6,000 miles on it. It still wears the original run flat tires, with date codes in mid-late 2008. My question is whether these tires are still safe to drive. They look perfect with not even the slightest deterioration evident. On the other hand, they're twelve years old. What do you guys think?

If you're only going to be driving around town on city streets you're probably okay, but I would personally not be comfortable with 12 year old tires. Most tire shops would not service those, and frankly running 12-year-old tires could be a liability issue in the event of an incident. I sold my 2003 MSG Vert several years ago, it had tires that were nearly 10 years old and before I was willing to sell it I mounted up a new set because I just wasn't willing to put the buyer at risk on tires that old. Ultimately the answer is whether or not you're comfortable with the risk, but I wouldn't be.
