just bought a set of C6 chrome wheels to replace my pitting wheels. They are the 5 spoke stock versions seen on base models. they're beautiful except there is glue inside the rims from previous weights and some tarnish/ soiling in the low spots. They were take-offs but not new take-offs. probably 35K on them. Is there a way to clean these so they look like new? The chrome faces are great. It's the insides of the rims that I want to clean like new. My fear is damaging them with harsh products or accidentally etching the metal. And a second question. Does anyone paint the insides (black) and if so, does it change the balance or affect the stickiness of the weights? Thanks for any advice or shared experiences.
The glue can be removed with 3M adhesive remover with no harm, I just did this to a set of chrome C7 wheels I got for my C6 base. Use a plastic razor blade or scrapper and the adhesive remover that glue/paper will come right off.
I used acetone to clean the tar, road debris, etc off the barrels. I assume if you paint them as others have it would have no real effect on balance.
Make sure you go with the road force balance also.

Hey Six - is there any way to effectively clean the barrels with the wheels on the car? I know taking the wheels off is the best way to do it - it's just not an option for me now.

javaman,
I know of no other way to clean the barrels effectively while on the car. Maybe try a spray on cleaner that could be pressure washed or hosed off.
I only really have to dust my car off so therefor I just use one of the waterless wash products and top off with beadmaker or similar. Vette hasn’t seen water in about three or four years.
