Default Wheel Weight Placement

Have some new wheels on order and I would like to ceramic coat them prior to mounting and balancing tires. I know there's no issue doing the front side of the rims but I do not not want to have issues on the inside of the wheels with the adhesion of the "stick-on" weights when balancing. Do the weights always get applied on the inside or outside lip area and not ever in the middle of the barrel ? When I looked at videos and read explanations of the balancing process I've never seen them anywhere but the inner / outer lips. I was thinking I would mask of the lip area and coat the rest of the barrel. Anyone have any experience / knowledge ?

Many wheels that are in use today, have so much positive offset, that the center spokes extend right out to the edge of the rim, hence there's no place to stick the weights to. In that case, you have to place the weights on the inner barrel of the wheels, as close to the "backside" of the spokes as possible....HOWEVER, you also have to take care that the weights clear the calipers, when the wheels rotate.
