Even though my stock GY runflats aren't bald I want to replace them. They seem to handle pretty crappy in the rain and are loud. I need a tire that is not noisy and can handle 120+ MPH all day long on the Autobahn and have really good wet traction in a non run flat tire.
I have narrowed it down to the following:
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Stock sizes $876.06
Kumho Ecsta MX 255 F, 295 R $731.14
Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance Stock sizes $652.00
The GY's seem to have really high ratings but they are the most expensive. The Kumho's I can get in a larger size and still cheaper then GY's but aren't rated as good. The Nitto's are a real deal but I hear they aren't too good in wet traction?
the new Eagle is a top shelf performer as are the Ecsta MX's but, the ride quality with the Eagles is much better .... if ride quality is a concern for your (it sounds like it is) get the Eagles
i am another very happy TireRack customer with my GY GS-D3's.
very quiet. there may be better dry tires, but only by a margin. unparallelled in wet according to the TireRack study. i can say from first hand experience that it is a great wet tire indeed.
I can only comment on the MXs, I have had them for a month and love them. Wet traction is about 150% better than my stock F1s, and dry is about 98% as good as the F1s. They are much better than I expected for the money.
