Hi there, my dad (83 yrs old now) and I recently got our 1961 Vette back on the road that he bought when I was born... 42 years ago. He told me today that he still had the VIN number from his original 1961 Vette that he bought in 1963 and I thought I might try my hand at tracking it down to see if it is still on the road. It was Fawn on Fawn with the 283 with dual quads and solid lifters. No interest in buying it at this point, but would love to know if it is still kicking around all these years later.
VIN: 10867S108262
Glad to be on here and thanks for any info. Cheers!
Rob
could it be he is missing a number? Or sloppy hand writing? What would keep it from being on a registry? Or is that something the owner would have to do proactively?
Are you familiar with NMVTIS? National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (I think). It's run by the .gov and there are several companies which will search for you for a fee. It won't give you name or address of owner, but will tell you what state it was last titled in, when that was, and a few other things such s whether it has a salvage title etc.
Finding out IF it's listed is free. Getting the actual report used to be $5, it's now up to $19.95. In your case they DO have a listing, but I'll let YOU pay the $20. Good luck - it won't end your search but should narrow it down a bit.

Owner adds a car to the registry voluntarily. A small percentage of cars are actually registered there, so lack of presence just means one avenue to contact the current ower is closed.
