Default Mounting Tape on Top of Dash?

Our 2017 2LT has the stock interior, the top of the dash is that black rubbery material that looks "ok".
I want to mount something electronic like a dashcam on the far left/top side of the dash, near the left A Pillar.
Suction cups annoy me, mirror mounts look worse and intrude on vision, but I can just stick it to the top of the dash with some adhesive.

Sticky-back Velcro should work well, it would allow the electronic to be removed when parked in strange areas. The Velcro will eventually lose its stick and need to be replaced, no big deal because the device is sitting on it and not hanging.
Or I could use the super-duper 3M mounting tape, that won't allow temporary removal but should stay forever.

I worry that both of those sticky adhesives might discolor the black dash top or leave a residue that can't be removed without damaging the "rubber".
Suggestions?

The standard dash pad is a vinyl-covered pad.

Almost anything you glue or stick on to the dash will in time leave an outline of the mounting area.

Sorry, you will 'see' it.

Personally, I wouldn't stick, tape, or glue anything to the top of the padded dash. I would consider finding a small suction cup device used for cell phone mounting and attach it to the windshield.

The problem with suction cups is that they look ugly, make the device obvious, and the bottom of the windshield is too far forward- I'd need an arm extender to reach it.
Bummer.

You could try the new nano gel doublesided tape like

Amazon Amazon

I’ve also used museum putty without leaving residue but that’s not as strong as nano tape

True, I'd hate that too. Anything ugly don't work on a C7

If the device is mostly flat, try a tacky dashboard mat. That's what I used for the radar detector in my C6.

Search the online places for "car dashboard sticky mat" or similar.

Here's one example - this site has MANY listed:

If you want the dash to look good, I would avoid putting any kind of sticky material on it.

I had assumed that on a bumpy road, anything on the sticky mat would bounce off, but maybe I’m wrong. Thanks for the suggestions.

with this. If you want a perfect dash with no marks I highly recommend do not put or stick anything on the dash. No matter what IMHO you’ll always get some kind of marks, of course if that doesn’t bother you that’s a whole different story.

That sticky mat look like a plan to me. Depending if wired or battery powered, I could see throwing on the pad, then the device, and then removing both when you get home or wherever. That way minimal time for the pad to cause any damage.
