I've been a C2 owner for a hot minute, but I wanted something a little more trackable. I figured an early C4 with a mechanically questionable drivetrain would be a fun project and I wouldn't have to care about originality. In that search, I stumbled on something unexpected, pretty close to home, and at a price I wasn't horrified by. So instead of a basketcase '85 with a carb that Bubba can't figure out, I brought home a ZR-1: '91 #773 with 41k miles, two acrylic tops, a red interior, and new tires.
AC's shot but I haven't bothered messing with it yet (R12), 1-2 shift is rough at high rpm so I'm planning to flush that and probably try the reverse bleeding (DOT 4 I guess is the way to go now), and there's a little paint damage on the hood that isn't obvious until you look directly at it from within a few feet. One of the acrylic tops is cracked so that'll make for a good core, and the one that's just sun-baked can live in the bag. It's an absolute blast to drive, and I can't wait to get it to an autocross/SOLO this summer. I've already enjoyed killing some free time at work going through this section, particularly the megathread, and I've already got the factory service manuals.
It's not every day you stumble on an affordable example of a car you had on posters as a kid. Saving up for a 959 will be much more challenging.
Congrats on the Z. If the 1-2 shift still gives you problems after the hydraulic fluid exchange and gear box fluid exchange, hopefully its not a synchro issue.
