If you don’t have a ZR1, or a Z06, or a GS? Then you have a “base” model. Period! Plain and simple, it is what it is! Don’t get your panties in a bunch. You have a CORVETTE!!!

However, I do stand by my other points. Opinions are opinions.
The LS3 has more power than a LS2. But if I can buy a LS2 for $500 compared to $4,000 for a LS3, is a LS3 better?
If it is going to cost $30k-ish for a GS but I can buy an '07 base for $17k (they're all over the place out there), is the GS better?
Again, I stand by every other point I made in that post.
It all depends on what you consider better. If you can buy a C5 for $15k (more realistic here than a 17k C6 - a 17k C6 isn't a car I would want to own, even a 15k C5 is pretty ratchet more than likely), drop in a 6.6L and boost for $10k, is a $200k C7ZR1 really better? To those who buy it, absolutely yes, but to someone who only has $30k to spend probably not.

Factually, a GS and a C6 z51 on track with a competent (trained) driver the GS will be hands down faster, and the lap.timemgapmwill grow over time as the Z51 starts to thermal soak where the GS resists it.

That said, you take the average owner, they won't be any faster because both cars are far beyond the capability of an untrained driver.

So, based on the basis of your complaint, you basically have a base issue that is based on the basics of base-ness. Did you try putting some bass in your base?

The standard coupe or convertible (roadster) is the base model Corvette. That is just the way vehicle designations have been done as long as I can remember, which is now getting to be a very long time. I couldn't care less if someone wants to try to be a snob and think their non base model is a better car. I buy what I want for my use and enjoyment.

Its all about that bass...

chorus

Because you know I′m all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I′m all about that bass, 'bout that bass, no treble
I'm all about that bass, ′bout that bass, no treble
I′m all about that bass, 'bout that bass

verse

Yeah, it′s pretty clear, I ain't no size two
But I can shake it, shake it like I′m supposed to do
'Cause I got that boom, boom that all the boys chase
And all the right junk in all the right places
I see the magazines (ah) workin′ that photoshop (ah)
We know that **** ain't real, come on, now, make it stop
If you got beauty, beauty (ah), just raise 'em up
′Cause every inch of you is perfect, from the bottom to the top

I really like the wide body look, but I still like the looks of my "base" 2006 roadster.

The generations and age groups of Corvette owners are changing. Social media has over hyped the Z-cars. They are the top of the C6 offerings without a doubt but you’ve got people boosting their egos just because the Z on the car. It’s not a true appreciation for Corvettes and the community as a whole. Passing people that wave is also becoming very rare.

Counterpoint: whenever I drive either of my Corvettes I get nothing but positive responses from guys my age and younger. I think Corvettes are finally shedding that "old man's car image (not because of the C8 or C7 btw) and people are just respecting the performance bargains they are and just how good they are.

The only guys that ever are less than positive are older folks that will look down at my C4 (a beat up looking literal track car) and say one day I'll be able to afford a nicer one like their base red on tam.auto c5. I just laugh at them.

Coming from owning an 07 base to now owning a ZR1, if it doesn't have wide body factory, it's a base model. Trim doesn't matter. Base, GS, Z06, ZR1. That's just the rules.

So, as long as I do a wide body conversion on my base coupe, it's no longer a base coupe?

You forgot where I put the word in there FACTORY. Everyone wide body swaps their base model and they are very easy to tell every time it's done.

No, I'll use factory parts. A combination of nos and used from Dino's.

You’re still missing the point.. but that’s okay. The car won’t look so bad once you swap it, but everyone will be able to tell you did it regardless of what parts you used.

I didn't miss your point, I'm just playing devil's advocate. (pun intended).
As for looks everyone has an opinion of what looks best, and that is a great thing. Some like the looks of a narrow body. Some prefer the wide body. This has been argued here on these forums and many other places for a long time.
I remember when the C6 ZR1 was released. Many criticized the hood because of the window to see the sc. However, I think everyone here would agree it is a holy grail car.
