I replaced my T-top Weatherstripping (which was a PITA) and it's very hard to get the T-tops in place now. I know the weatherstrip is larger than what I took off just due to the other being in place for years. Is this normal? Maybe over time it will flatten out some? Or maybe there is another brand that will work better?
Is it the US made weatherstrip from Corvette Rubber? Jay's weatherstrip is pretty hard but it will compress over time. A lot of the original GM weatherstrip was pretty stiff too.
Forgot to mention that going down the road sounds like, snap, crackle, pop. I guess because it's so tight. I might put a dab of lubricant on the rubber to see if that stops that. What ya think?
I recently replaced my T-top weather strip in my 1970.Yes, absolutely a PITA...
No need for reminiscing about how awful it was removing the original 56 year old material....
I installed on tops originally with just the plastic pegs and no adhesive. To put tops on car, I loosened center guide tabs and outer clamps. Once in place on roof, realigned tops and tightened tabs and clamps. Then left the tops in place for 3 months.
This allowed the rubber to match the car and relax. They now come on and off cleanly after three months rest time. Afterwards, used 3/8 wide 3M weather strip tape in the outside channel to permanently hold the above window section.
No squeaks, no rattles, no leaks, no mess from adhesive. And royal PITA.
