How difficult to replace headliner with a complete new one? My fabric separated, foam still in place. New ones aren't that expensive vs repair. Does surface have to be pristine for the new glue? Best solvent? Anything easier than the nasty spray glue?
If you are talking about the headliner in a coupe, I did mine a few weeks ago and it looks great. THe 3M headliner glue is easy to work with and not bad at all. There are some youtube videos on replacement. I do advise to tape off the plastic surround before spray glue. The surface does need to be clean but not hospital clean. Get all the old stuff off. Do not use goo-be-gone, stinks and takes off more than you need. One our forum members, Cruisinfanatic sells them on ebay. I have no affiliation with him other than was a beta tester for the C5 kit.
Thanks I would have rubbed Goo Gone all over the thing. Remember the cost for the replacement?
Not sure what he charges. We worked out a deal where I sent him my old headboard as a pattern and in return received a new kit for testing. He has been selling other models on ebay for a while so is established. I'd look on the auction site or contact him direct. I looked at one time and thought they were reasonably priced. Good luck.

I installed a headliner in a model a ford a while back and used double sided carpet tape to attach. worked out very well. stuck tight with no mess. I used the 3 m spray to glue a dash cover way back when and the hot sun released the covering (melted).
You will need something like the 3M or similar product. The headliner material has to be glued to the backer board first. After, I suppose double-sided tape could work to attach the backer to the Targa. I've used 3M here on another headliner project and has held up just fine. (Extreme South Texas). When gluing the backer to the Targa, it worked great and was able to use a plastic trim tool to tuck the front and sides under the gap. The rear does not have a gap.
