5 Best C5 Air Intake Options

Let those stallions really gallop by freeing up the airflow of the factory restricted airbox with a quality, aftermarket air intake system.

1. Vararam

This air intake system replicates in a Cold Air Intake in that it directs cold air through the fog light panel area to a panel-type filter. Current owners have better luck with the system on the racetrack. Install is rather lengthy. Because of the location of the inlet, it could potentially block the natural air induction from the fog panel filter which could result in a hotter engine bay temperature especially if you plan on adding a header system later. Price varies around $300-$400 (NOT smog legal in CA).

2. Halltech

This air intake system comes in 2 flavors. The "Stinger-R" and the "Venom".

The Stinger-R not only contains the large filter but also includes a larger airbridge and smooth throttle body coupler. For around $350, this system represents one of the best bang for the buck for Corvette enthusiasts looking for more power.

The Venom intake system features an even larger filter than that of the Stinger-R and other competitors like 'Blackwing'. Similar to the Callaway Honker, it requires relocation the MAF sensor to the front of the throttle body. Owners clam Its filtering ability is very good, if not excellent. There is also the "killer bee" system, which is essentially a combination of the above 2 but contains a filter with a built-in velocity stack.

3. K&N FIPK

With a popular name like "K&N", how can you go wrong? These filters are just the right amount of performance while keeping things "as stock as possible". This is more of a semi-cold air system in design and function, as the cold air intake opening is more of a slit than a large opening with a large filter. Its filter endcaps are carbon fiber which is a neat touch. It is 50-states legal, costs around $350 and compares to the Stinger-R

4. Blackwing

This is essentially just a large filter and represents the look of the Stinger-R. The cost is around the same and it is also not SMOG legal. However, one could potentially replace the unit with the stock box before inspection time. Like many aftermarket performance-related items, this is also meant for track use only. 5. Vortex

This air intake system, called the Vortech Rammer or Vortex Rammer, directs cold air up from in front of the radiator and into an enclosed box. The filter is smaller than the Halltech or Blackwing unit. Priced around $250 (NOT smog legal in CA).
