Air Cleaner Housing Maintenance

By -

Going over a \’92 in some detail, I have noticed while changing the air
cleaner that the black plastic housing had become mis-shapened over time,
that is; the bottom portion of the lid lip on both sides (not top or
bottom) had sunken and would not allow for a tight seal with the air
filter. This created roughly a 1/4\” gap along both sides of the air
cleaner and housing allowing contaminated air to enter under the filter
directly into the engine!
I ran a bead of GE waterproof
clear
silicone chalk down both sides and let cure under heat before
reinstalling.
I urge you to inspect this area on older cars or cars
that see a lot of heat!
